‘Unimaginable Horror’ Dad & 3 Young Kids Killed in Deadly House Fire Believed To Be a Murder-Suicide

A loving community in New Zealand has wrapped its arms around a mother who lost everything in a horrific house fire, including her three small children. Fire crews responded to a home in Sanson around 2:30 p.m. November 15, 2025. Firefighters found the bodies of Dean Field and his children, August, 7, Hugo, 5, and Goldie, 1. The children had serious burns, but the father apparently did not. Sadly, it appears Dean Field killed his children and himself in an apparent murder-suicide. Their mother, Chelsey Field, now has to piece together a life without those she loved most.

According to a New Zealand Police news release, investigators are working to determine what happened, but the fire severely damaged the home. The process will move more slowly because of unsafe conditions at the home. Manawatū Area Commander Inspector Ross Grantham shared in the release that he understands people want answers and that they will come in due time.

“Any case involving young children is particularly difficult, and I want to acknowledge the families, Fire and Emergency New Zealand, and the community for their support. I also want to acknowledge our Police people, who are doing outstanding work in what is a very emotional and difficult case,” he shared in the release.

“They are carrying out this investigation on behalf of the victims with professionalism and dignity, and we are ensuring they have the support they need after being confronted by something so horrible,” Grantham added.

News 9 identified the father as Dean Field, and an online fundraiser named the children. According to Stuff, when investigators found Dean Field and the children’s bodies, the father did not have severe burns. Loved ones are doing their best to ease Chelsey Field’s expenses as she attempts to rebuild a life.

“In the midst of this unimaginable grief, she also lost her home and everything she owned. She is facing the hardest journey possible, stripped of her physical security while navigating the deepest emotional pain,” the creator shared on Give a Little.

“We cannot mend her broken heart, but we can wrap her in community support. Please join us in offering this gift of peace and practical help during her darkest time,” the creator added.

This is a pain no mother should ever feel. Losing children to an apparent murder-suicide committed by their father takes it to a level that’s truly incomprehensible. May she find peace and some kind of light in the situation. Thankfully, she has many loved ones who’ve wrapped their arms around her.
