What to Know
In attempting to explain why he would not give baby formula to a mom and her hungry baby, pastor Steven Anderson called single moms “wh*res.” The topic came up because of an experiment that has gone viral on TikTok.
TikToker Nikalie Monroe has been calling churches and telling them that she is in desperate need of baby formula. As she describes it in her TikTok bio, she’s “testing your church to see if they would feed a hungry baby.”
When she calls the religious institutions, she has the sound of a crying baby playing in the background. Even so, many of the churches she’s reached out to have declined to help her. Anderson’s reaction has gone viral for being particularly horrifying.
In a rant on X, Anderson made his stance very clear.
According to him, churches should be “helping godly Christians who are in need.” The implication seems to be that single moms are not included in this.
“I would be pissed if I donated to a church & found out that they were giving the Lord’s money to ‘single mother’ wh*res,” the pastor wrote. “I would want it to go to the Lord’s work or toward helping godly Christians who are in need. Churches should not be funding fornicators and their bastards.”
Someone wrote back saying, “When a woman calls for formula the church should be asking where is your husband?” Anderson then replied with, “That is exactly right.”
And in case you weren’t sure what he meant by “wh*res,” he later clarified that he really did mean that the term can be used to describe most single moms. “No one is criticizing widows,” he wrote. “I specifically mentioned ‘wh*res’ producing ‘bastards’ through ‘fornication.’ Widows are also a tiny percentage of ‘single mothers.’ Having a child out of wedlock = being a wh*re. Also, remember that 2/3 of divorces are initiated by the woman.”
He then called the people who disagreed with him “wh*res” as well. Sharing a screenshot of all his recent one-star Google reviews, the pastor wrote, “Cry harder, wh*res and wh*remongers!”
Cry harder, whores and whoremongers!

He also defended his stance in a video.

In spite of all the backlash his initial post garnered, Anderson hasn’t changed his mind. According to Anderson, even some “so-called Christians” have been “losing their minds” in response to what he said about single moms and baby formula. He said some Christians have accused him of not knowing the Bible, but he claims that this criticism comes from people’s “stupidity and ignorance.”
“I don’t care about your feelings,” he said. “Facts don’t care about feelings. The Bible is the truth, and at the end of the day, I go by what the Bible says. I’m going to preach what the Bible says, and you can whine, and moan, and complain about it, but it doesn’t change that I’m right.”
Reacting to the clip on TikTok, one person reminded everyone that this was the pastor’s respond to a hungry baby who needed baby formula. Besides, people also wondered what made him think the woman who called him asking for formula was a single mom.
“Not once did she say she was not Christian while on the call,” they argued. “Not once did she say she wasn’t married. Not once did she say anything except, ‘Can you help me with one can of formula for my hungry baby?'”
