What to Know
Erika Kirk has never held back when it comes to her political beliefs, and that’s certainly not changing now. While making an appearance at an event in New York City this week, not only did the widow of the late Charlie Kirk share how she really feels about newly elected mayor Zohran Mamdani, but also made a pretty bold statement about what she thinks about “career-driven” women.
According to Erika, these women are looking for the government to fill a role that a husband usually would in their lives… and yes, she actually did say that.
The topic came up when Erika was asked how she feels about Mamdani.
Mamdani’s win in New York last month was one that many conservatives weren’t very happy about, and while in conversation on stage at the 2025 Dealbook Summit, editor Andrew Ross Sorkin mentioned that he was able to reach young voters on the “complete opposite” end of the political spectrum than the ones Charlie was trying to reach while he was alive and working with Turning Point USA.
As People reported, that’s when Erika pointed out that “a high percentage of [Mamdani’s] voters were female” — something that is worrying to her, considering the new mayor’s policies.
“I think there’s a tendency, especially when you live in a city like Manhattan, where you are so career-driven, and you almost look to the government as a form of replacement for certain things, relationship-wise, even, so you see things a little bit differently,” she said.
She thinks women are “relying on the government” instead of starting families.
Erika went on to say that she hopes the same women who voted for Mamdani won’t “look to the government as a solution to put off having a family or a marriage because you’re relying on the government to support you instead of being united with a husband where you can support yourself and your husband can support and you can guys all combine together.”
She added, “But I just find it so ironic and so interesting that a heavy percentage of the individuals that voted for him were female.”
People are less than impressed with Erika’s take.
After the New York Times shared a video of the conversation on Instagram, commenters made it clear that they’re not on board with what Erika is saying.
“If she’s so focused on mothers and children, why is she working doing these interviews??? Get back to the kitchen mama,” one commenter wrote.
Another person chimed in, “Sorry what? The government supports single working women in Manhattan ?!! LET US KNOW WHEN THAT BILL GETS PASSED SIS.”
It’s also important to note that Erika herself is a career woman, whether she realizes it or not; now, she’s the CEO of Turning Point USA, taking over from Charlie after his death. It remains to be seen if that’s going to change the way she views women who enjoy working.
