Joyless Man Allegedly Pulled Gun on 12-Year-Old Girls Singing Christmas Carols Door-to-Door

The holiday season is full of people who love to do nothing more than spread joy. But then there are also people who are resentful of that joy. Maryland resident Paul Susie is gaining a reputation as a holiday grinch after he pulled a gun on a trio of tween girls who were going around his neighborhood singing Christmas songs. The girls thought it would be fun to spread a little early holiday cheer by doing some door-to-door caroling. But Susie was allegedly resentful of their decision and made sure they knew it. Although he may have successfully scared away the joyful chorus, now he’s facing assault charges.

The incident took place around 8:30 p.m. November 22, 2025, authorities from Anne Arundel County shared in a news release. Southern District police officers showed up at the home of Susie, 58, around 9:10 p.m.

During their investigation, authorities learned that three 12-year-old girls had been going around the neighborhood spreading Christmas cheer when Susie “pointed a firearm at them from a window inside of his residence,” the release noted. He was charged with first- and second-degree assault.

WUSA9 reported that police were alerted by the mother of one of the girls, according to court documents. Officers said the girls knocked twice on Susie’s door, announcing that they were there to sing carols.

Susie allegedly went up to the bay window, which was to the left of his front door. When the girls saw the gun drawn, they ran from his home. The responding officer said in the documents that Susie confessed to pulling out the gun.

“The handgun used in this incident was recovered from the gun safe and was found to be loaded,” the charge summary report noted, per WUSA9. Susie does have a Maryland Handgun permit, officers confirmed.

The charge summary also reported that Susie told police he had been drinking while sitting and watching television with his wife.

“Given Susie’s reckless behavior in pointing a loaded firearm at a group of non-threatening twelve year olds he could clearly see on his well-lit stoop, his loud and belligerent behavior during my conversation with him, and his admission of consuming an alcoholic beverage I know through my training, knowledge, and experience Susie was likely under the influence,” the police officer said in the charging document, WJZ reported.

As Marc Limansky, spokesperson for Anne Arundel County Police, explained, per WJZ, “It’s an assault because pointing a handgun at an individual is a threat of violence against that individual, a threat to their safety.”

Susie was released from police custody after posting a $10,000 unsecured bond and scheduled to return to court at a later date.
