Mom Suffers Chemical Burns Across Her Body After Being Randomly Attacked During Nighttime Walk

A woman remains hospitalized as she deals with the effects of a random attack. Ashley Wasielewski was walking alone at a popular park in Georgia when she was suddenly doused with a mystery liquid. Although she initially thought it was water, everything changed when it started burning. That’s when she knew she was in serious trouble. Thankfully, people quickly rushed to her aid, and she was able to get help. But her path to recovery is going to be long and difficult. Unfortunately, the person who committed the crime is still at large. Police are working diligently to make sure they are caught.

Wasielewski was walking alone in Savannah’s Forsyth Park around 8 p.m. December 10, 2025, WJCL reported. As she walked, a man came up behind her and poured a mystery liquid on her.

A neighbor told the news outlet they heard 45-year-old Wasielewski’s screams for help and ran outside. She was on the ground and part of her clothing had melted off. The liquid, which was some sort of corrosive agent, even damaged her keys.

Wasielewski is being treated at a burn unit in Augusta, son Westley Wasielewski told the Associated Press. He said the burns cover about half of her body, including her face, scalp, legs, and hands.

“We don’t know who did it,” he said, per AP. “She doesn’t have any enemies. She is a friend to everyone.”

He added that someone who helped his mother called to alert him to what happened. He could hear her screams in the background.

“She was instantly like, `Why are you pouring water on me?’ And then her skin started to burn,” family friend Connor Milam told AP. “She looked down and her pants were starting to burn off her body.”

According to the outlet, initial releases about the incident didn’t explicitly name Wasielewski. Both her son and Milam said they’re speaking out so people with information about that night would feel encouraged to share with the appropriate authorities.

“They didn’t rob her. They didn’t take anything from her,” Milam said. “This was a random person in the park who went out of their way to disfigure another human being.”

Kristen Oddi, another close friend of Ashley Wasielewski, started a GoFundMe account as the woman recovers.

“In the weeks and months ahead, she will require extensive ongoing care—specialized burn treatments, rehabilitation, occupational therapy, wound management, long-term support/follow-up that is medically necessary for her recovery,” Oddi wrote on the page.

As Ashley Wasielewski endures surgeries, Savannah police officers are continuing to investigate the attack. They have released an image of a man connected to the incident, stressing that he was not considered a suspect.

“He is not detained at this time. We are just asking questions of him,” Savannah Mayor Van Johnson shared in a media update, CBS Atlanta reported. The man, who approached the police voluntarily, has been interviewed.

Additionally, the Savannah FBI is offering a $5,000 reward for anyone with information that leads to the arrest and conviction of whoever is guilty of the attack. The agency has set up a digital tip line where people can upload pictures or videos.
