Elton John may be a living music legend, but the home he shares with husband David Furnish is surprisingly normal on the inside — or, in the opinions of some of his fans, maybe a little too normal.
After sharing a video filmed in his kitchen on Instagram, Elton promptly got dragged for how dirty the inside of his oven is… and since this is Elton John we’re talking about, of course he’s not going to let those comments go.
It all started with a rather harmless Christmas video.
Filmed at the end of November, Elton was poking fun at his own classic holiday song, “Step Into Christmas,” which tends to take over the airwaves around this time of year. In the video, he walked around his kitchen, opening different cabinet doors and drawers only to find the song blasting every time.
At one point in the video, he opened up his oven to make the same discovery, but commenters quickly pointed out that the door to the oven appeared to be dirty.
Some were a bit appalled, with one writing, “I want to be cleaning the inside of that oven door.”
Others were actually comforted that something wasn’t perfect in Elton’s house: “Nice to see even Elton’s oven needs cleaning before Christmas, my oven glass needs an oven doctor too.”
Elton definitely saw all those comments.
And just to make sure there wasn’t any doubt that he’s reading what people write on his posts, he returned with another video, letting everyone know that he wasn’t turning a blind eye to it.
“A couple of weeks ago, I did a video in this kitchen about how crazy ‘Step Into Christmas’ was driving me, and it got an incredible response, which I was quite startled about,” he said. “But a lot of the response was kind of negative about how dirty my oven was — my oven door, my oven window.”
He continued, “I can assure you, I don’t have anything dirty in this house. I’ve never had anything dirty in this house. I’m not a dirty person. So to prove that I don’t have anything that’s dirty, I’m going to do something to show you.”
Now, his oven is officially clean.
In the next video, Elton showed himself scrubbing the oven door — while wearing fuzzy pink rubber gloves and a Gucci tracksuit, no less.
“I’ve got the cleanest oven window in Windsor!” he proclaimed, adding in his caption, “Don’t think your comments go unnoticed…”
No matter what that oven door looks like, this man is an icon.
People of the internet, is Elton’s oven up to standards? If it isn’t, you can bet he’ll hear about it… and he will most certainly have a response for those comments, too.
