Teachers’ Sad Home Lunches Are Why They’re Always Mad at Their Students

There’s finally an answer to why some teachers just can’t stand their classes the moment they start their day. Some of them don’t have great lunches to look forward to. It all makes sense now. Alright, maybe that’s a far stretch. When a group of teachers shared their home lunches in a TikTok, though, it shed new light on the sad lunches they pack for themselves to give themselves a mid-day bump.

From one teacher’s lunch which is literally just a sandwich and a drink, to another one that is full of whatever she could find in her refrigerator at home that no one in her family took first, the lunches make me want to start a GoFundMe for the faculties at my local schools so they can actually eat well while educating a bunch of loud kids. There are some decent home lunches in the video, but the ones that stand out are the sad ones with the end pieces of a loaf of bread and a plastic baggy of loose lunch meat. Yum.

One of the teacher’s lunches is just ingredients.

The teachers in the TikTok happily share the contents of their home lunches for the day. One teacher has a turkey and cheese sandwich, a Coke Zero, and bottled water. Ma’am, you better be snacking throughout the day, because I would simply float away if that’s all I ate at lunch. Another teacher shares her lunch of an orange, lettuce and tomato salad, and container of chicken. I mean, it’s a little better, I’ll give her that.

Don’t get too excited, though, because later in the video, we have a teacher with a plastic baggy of plain lunch meat, some random fruits, a container of whole peppers, and hummus. Another absolutely kind-looking teacher shares her lunch of a soy hot dog on a potato bun and a bottle of caesar dressing she apparently plans to put on it. She also has what appears to be black bean, corn, and tomato salsa, but, she says, someone at home took all the tomatoes out of it.

One user on TikTok commented on the video with, “It’s like who can eat less.”

“All those lunches are so small and sad and cold,” another added.

There is a salad that looks way more filling from another teacher’s lunch, and not all of the lunches are that bad. But the ones that are downright sad are the ones that you can’t help focusing on. And, as someone else said in the comments, we need to pay our teachers more. For better lunches, sure, but you know, just in general.

Some of these lunches are the product of women feeling like they are forced to diet after January, or were once big proponents of Weight Watchers, and it shows big time. The bag of plain lunch meat? Girly pop, please at least throw it on some whole grain bread or a carb-free wrap. The soy hot dog? Straight to jail. Or, for the love of all things holy, just don’t put that caesar dressing on it, because what?

All of the teachers in the TikTok seem lovely, to be fair. But if ever there was a reason why a teacher might be annoyed in the morning or even irritable after lunch, it might be because they have a terrible lunch to look forward to or a lunch that barely filled them up. The idea for some of these teachers is obviously portion control, but at what cost?
