Carrie Underwood Slammed for Making Comments About ‘American Idol’ Contestant’s Body

Another season of American Idol is in full swing, and it sounds like it may not have gotten off to the best start for Carrie Underwood. On Monday’s episode, Carrie made a comment about a contestant’s “baby knees,” and even though it seems like she was attempting to make a joke, plenty of viewers aren’t laughing. Is it ever a good idea to comment on someone’s body, especially on national television?

Carrie made an offhand comment to fellow judge Luke Bryan.

After seeing a contestant’s audition, Carrie said to Luke, “I couldn’t stop looking at her baby knees.”

Of course, a comment like that demands further explanation, which Carrie was happy to supply, as Star reported — and surprisingly enough, it has to do with the British royal family.

“Like when you have a face in your knees?” she said.. “Right after Kate and William had their baby George, my knees were in a magazine and it was like, ‘Prince George’s face was in Carrie Underwood’s knees!’ And I was like, ‘What the crap is going on with my knees?’”

People mostly found the comment weird.

Fans took Carrie to task for her comment in a discussion on an American Idol subreddit.

“I NEVER want to hear ANYONE tell me that nobody notices all the little things I’m self-conscious about because this poor woman is sitting at home somewhere hearing Carrie Underwood say ‘I couldn’t stop staring at her baby knees,'” one person wrote.

“This is exactly what I thought as soon as Carrie said that,” another user replied. “Poor girl.”

Carrie’s already regretting the fact that she said anything — but not because of the backlash.

After the episode aired, Carrie shared a post on X admitting that she should have thought before she spoke. Not because she might have hurt someone’s feelings, but because her sons Isaiah and Jacob were having a field day with imagining faces in their mom’s knees.

“Oh man, I’m dumb. Sorry I talk about silly things sometimes. Now my kids want to look at my knees,” she wrote, along with a face palm emoji.

Maybe she learned her lesson the hard way? This season of American Idol is still young, though…
