What to Know
After the surprise private meeting with his father after 19 months of estrangement in September, 2025, there appeared to be some hope that fences could possibly be mended between Prince Harry and King Charles. Even though things have not always gone smoothly, they are still father and son. It’s been revealed in a new book all about the royals, titled William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story, that King Charles gave his son’s wife of almost eight years, Meghan Markle, a unique nickname that’s not really likely to hurt anyone’s feelings anytime soon, or so we would hope!
In a new book about the royals, it’s disclosed that King Charles had a unique nickname for Meghan Markle.
Everything changed once Prince Harry and Meghan Markle decided to step down from their royal duties in 2020. Before all that though, Meghan had been a part of the royal family, and was appointed the Duchess of Sussex, during that period. This means she was bound to be included in the new book written by Russell Myers, William & Catherine: The Intimate Inside Story.
Before leaving her royal duties, the book reveals that King Charles gave his daughter-in-law a nickname that referenced her “strong wit and fortitude,” per AOL. The nickname is none other than “Tungsten,” which is supposedly in reference to “the metal known for being tough and unbending under extreme pressure,” per the news outlet.
Well, it could be a lot worse, right? That nickname basically seems like a compliment, especially when you think about the kind of scrutiny Meghan experienced throughout her time in the royal family.
The book explains that King Charles was actually quite fond of Meghan.
Even though a lot of the world has been charmed by Meghan, especially through her acting and watching her on the hit Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, you couldn’t always be sure how members of the royal family felt about her.
According to Russell Myers’ book, King Charles was “very fond of her and in the early days found her charming to be around.” King Charles apparently found Meghan to be “engaging, polite, and was very clearly in love with his son.” We can all agree that the love between Prince Harry and Meghan was always pretty apparent, right?
The author writes, “there was certainly no apparent issues he felt the need to address.” Now, that feels like a bold statement to make.
Someone close to the couple supposedly knew that Prince Harry and Meghan would likely leave the royal family.
The new book about the royals notes that Meghan had some trouble adjusting to her royal duties, but Kate Middleton and Prince Edward’s wife, Sophie, “tried to ease Meghan into the royal fold,” but their attempts weren’t responded to.
Especially after their wedding, Kate found Meghan to be “bullish” and “abrasive.” Russell Myers explains in his book that Kate “saw the inevitability of the parting of ways, although perhaps not to the extent of what eventually happened.”
If you’re at all interested in a more inside look at the royals, this book sounds like one to pick up!
