Mom Whose 2-Year-Old Was Found Outside in Diaper Leaves Kids Alone for Second Time in a Year

A Texas mom is facing her second child abandonment charge in less than a year. Vinkia Olive, who lives in Harris County, apparently can’t keep herself at home and allegedly left her kids alone with the door unlocked for several hours. During that time, her toddler escaped from the home. Thankfully, the child was found by a security guard before anything bad happened. When the security guard returned the little one to the home, however, he found something even more distressing. Police haven’t given a reason for Olive’s frequent disappearances, but it seems she’s been in trouble with the law a lot in the last year.

The 25-year-old mom was out on bond from another child abandonment charge when her 2-year-old son was seen walking alone outside on March 1, 2026, KTRK reported. A security guard in the community where Olive lives told Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies that he found the boy barefoot and crying, wearing only a diaper.

When the security guard took the boy home, the door was wide open. Multiple children were in the residence alone, he told authorities. A 10-year-old told deputies their mom had been gone for two hours.

Olive allegedly told deputies that she had gotten food poisoning and left the kids at home so she could get medication.

“To leave kids alone, even to go take care of some medical situation. You just don’t do that,” Dr. Glenn Wilkerson, president of The ARK Group, which offers parenting classes, told the KTRK. “You make some other arrangements so that the kids are safe while you’re gone.”

When KTRK reporters knocked on Olive’s door, two young kids opened the door. A woman eventually came to the door but wouldn’t identify herself. When asked about the allegations, she said, “I don’t know nothing about that.”

According to deputies, CPS told them there’s already an open case against Olive. The children will now be staying with their grandmother.

Last June, she allegedly left four children younger than 9 home alone with knives, prosecutors said, according to KTRK. Court documents didn’t give specifics about what actions were taken after the 2025 arrest.

“The Department of Family and Protective Services has no public record to share because specific details of CPS investigations are confidential according to law,” the agency shared in a statement.

According to prosecutors, Olive is fighting a charge from 2025 that is tied to criminal activity, Hoodline reported. She allegedly stole more than $30,000 worth of products from Bath & Body Works, KTRK reported.
