What to Know
While Kate Middleton has never seemed to be a big drinker, there have been plenty of times over the years that we’ve seen her with a drink in her hand — whether she was at a banquet or touring a Guinness distillery. But more than one year out from her remission after she was diagnosed with cancer in 2024, she’s making a big change in her drinking habits that was displayed during one of her royal engagements this week.
Prince William and Kate Middleton enjoyed a foodie day out.
On Thursday, Kate and husband Prince William spent some time taking in London’s food scene, stopping at locations like Borough Market. According to People, they spent time checking out each food stall, and at one point, Kate even made an attempt at being a barista and made William some coffee.
The couple also made other stops in the area, including Trethowan Brothers cheesemakers and Change Please, a coffee shop that donates proceeds to organizations that help the homeless. If you’re a foodie, it sounds like their tour was a dream come true. Who could say no to fancy cheese?
Kate mentioned she has cut back on alcohol.
Will and Kate also visited the Bermondsey Beer Mile, or a collection of different bars and breweries all in the same area. They stopped by Fabal Beerhall, and as Hello! magazine reported, William was down to try the drinks, but Kate passed, telling owner Hannah Rhodes, “Since my diagnosis I haven’t had much alcohol … It’s something I have to be a lot more conscious of now.”
That doesn’t mean that she wasn’t a totally active participant in the visit in other ways, though. When she and Will made their way to Southwark Brewing Company, they both took turns stirring the hops and pulling pints, and it looked like they really had a good time (even if these kinds of tasks aren’t part of their regular job duties as senior royals).
She has talked about the challenges that come with post-cancer life before.

While visiting Colchester Hospital in July, Kate talked about the most challenging parts of going back to her “normal” life after completing cancer treatment, calling it a “rollercoaster.”
“You’re not necessarily under the clinical team any longer but you’re not able to function normally at home as you perhaps once used to,’’ Kate said at the time. “Actually, someone to help talk you through that, show you and guide you through that sort of phase that comes after treatment, I think, is really valuable.”
She added, “You have to find your new normal and that takes time… and it’s a roller coaster, it’s not smooth, like you expect it to be. But the reality is you go through hard times.”
