A 7-year-old girl survived a brazen knife attack while at an after-school program in California. The stabbing occurred around 3:30 p.m. March 11, 2026, at Bubb Elementary School in Mountainview. A 10-year-old boy who reportedly does not attend the school or its after-school program allegedly stabbed the girl three times with a kitchen knife. He then ran away but not before dropping his weapon near the playground. Police put the school on lockdown while searching for their suspect. Thankfully, officers apprehended him a short time later. When they found him, they realized he wasn’t a stranger to law enforcement.
EMS rushed to the scene.
The Mountain View Emergency Communications Center received the call in the early afternoon and sent crews to the scene in the 500 block of Hans Avenue, according to a news release from the city of Mountain View. EMS immediately rendered aid to the injured child and released her to a parent. Her current condition is unknown.
Police knew the suspect from past encounters.
When officers began searching the 10-year-old suspect, they quickly recognized him.
“During the neighborhood search, officers located residential video. A patrol officer later identified the suspect through the residential video after recognizing him from prior contacts,” police noted in the city’s news release. “A Los Altos Police Department K-9 unit assisted in tracking the suspect from the school to the suspect’s residence.”
After catching the juvenile, police took him to mental health services. “Custody of the juvenile was transferred to clinicians from Pacific Clinics, Santa Clara County’s juvenile mental health services provider,” the city’s news release noted.
Details of the story disturbed readers.
Many people who read about the incident on Facebook questioned why the juvenile was at the school if he didn’t attend Bubb Elementary School.
“Why was the perp there if he was not enrolled in the school or after school program? This is surely a big issue with school security/ management,” one person asked.
A school employee chimed in on the post, shocked. “I’m stunned. I work at this school. My heart is broken for everyone involved and for the students who saw this,” she wrote.
Others felt concern for the other kids who likely saw the violent attack occur.
“I work with children in elementary I know they’re all hard to watch with only 3 -6 yard duty’s but HOW TF did nobody see the signs that this kid was aggressive violent and MURDEROUS ??? HOW!!!!!” someone wrote in the comments.
This story is so scary on multiple levels. If this kid didn’t attend the school, how was he able to sneak into the playground and randomly attack this child? Did they know each other? Was it planned? There are plenty of details we do not know. Thankfully, it sounds like the young girl only had minor injuries. Hopefully, her attacker gets the help he needs.
