Soccer Star Claims Chappell Roan Sent Security After His 11-Year-Old Daughter

For years, “Pink Pony Club” singer Chappell Roan has faced criticism for her interaction with the public, and now, something that may have happened involving one of her young fans is calling her into question again. After professional soccer star Jorginho claimed that Chappell sent her security guard after his 11-year-old stepdaughter — who had traveled to Brazil with her mom to see the singer — she’s facing backlash of massive proportions.

It all unfolded because Chappell and Jorginho’s wife and stepdaughter happened to be staying at the same hotel.

Jorginho’s stepdaughter is Ada Law — the daughter of Jude Law and the soccer player’s wife, Catherine Harding, who is also known as Cat Cavelli — and according to a post on his Instagram Stories that he shared on Saturday, Ada and Catherine were in Sao Paulo, Brazil for the Lollapalooza music festival just so Ada could see Chappell, one of her favorite musicians.

“This morning, my daughter woke up incredibly excited. She even made a sign because she was so happy to see an artist she really admires, or used to admire,” Jorginho wrote in his post, which has since expired (via People). “By coincidence, they’re staying at the same hotel as this artist. During breakfast, the artist walked past their table. My daughter, like any child, recognised her, got excited, and just wanted to make sure it was really her.”

Though Jorginho said that Ada didn’t approach Chappell, he did say that a security guard came to the table they were sitting at and told Cat “she shouldn’t allow my daughter to ‘disrespect’ or ‘harass’ other people.”

The online backlash against Chappell was immediate.

Jorginho added that his stepdaughter was pretty broken up about the situation, writing, “My daughter was extremely shaken and cried a lot.” Once his story was out, people were very quick to shame Chappell for the way the incident was handled.

One person wrote in a post on X, “Chappell Roan is rude, arrogant and shouldn’t be famous. Making a 11 yo cry is cr@zy behavior.”

Another added, “sending a bodyguard to berate an 11-year-old girl for smiling at her…. Chappell luv I can’t keep defending you especially this time.”

Chappell’s side of the story is a little different.

After the controversy unfolded, Chappell took to her own Instagram Stories to share her side of things, explaining that she never sent a security guard over to their table — and that she wasn’t even aware a child had been nearby.

“I didn’t even see a woman and a child. Like, I did not. No one came up to me, no one bothered me,” she said. “Like, I was just sitting at breakfast in my hotel, [and] I think these people were staying at the hotel as well.”

Adding that the security guard in question wasn’t her personal security, she continued, “They did not come up to me. They weren’t doing anything. It’s unfair for security to just assume someone doesn’t have good intentions, when they have no reason to believe, because there’s no action even taken.”

She concluded her message with an apology to Ada and her mom. “I’m sorry to the mother and child, that someone was assuming something, that you would do something, and if you felt uncomfortable, that makes me really sad. You did not deserve that,” she said.
