Teen Tricked by His 2 ‘Friends’ Who Allegedly Ended Up Mercilessly Killing Him

One of the things I want most for my son is to find his “people.” Although he’ll always have me and my husband, it’s so important that he chooses to surround himself with positive people who he can trust and rely on. I am still very best friends with the women I met in grade school, and they have been absolutely integral in my life, and I think any parent who has that also wants it for their kids. But sadly, not everyone our children will befriend will be good for them. And in some nightmare cases, they could even be the cause of their untimely and heartbreaking demise.

A Houston mother is left mourning her 18-year-old high school son and two of his friends stand accused of the crime, per Law & Crime.

Two 16-year-olds were charged in the December 26, 2025, murder of Michael Spivey.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez announced both defendants were booked into Harris County’s juvenile detention center. The Violent Criminals Apprehension Team arrested one of the teens on March 14, 2026, and the other on March 16, following an investigation that determined Spivey left his home and returned back with two individuals.

Vanessa Garcia, Spivey’s mother, said her son considered the two responsible his ‘friends.’

“You have to protect your babies,” Garcia told ABC 13 in an initial report of the murder. “Not even in their own room, they’re safe.”

Spivey was reportedly shot in the back of the head in his bedroom; authorities say there was no sign of forced entry.

“They said they needed help that night to come charge their phones and he let them in. They took advantage of my son’s kindness,” Garcia told ABC 13 following the arrests.

The mom also alleges that following the grizzly shooting, the pair went online and mocked Spivey.

“These boys who did this to my child only made it harder by going online and making songs about him, making fun of him like if my son was a joke,” she said, per ABC 13.

Now, Garcia is pushing for the teens to be tried as adults.

“A juvenile is a child who doesn’t know what they’re doing yet,” Garcia declared to ABC 13. “They knew what they were doing. They went there with the intent to do it.” She is hopeful that the two will serve life sentences if they are convicted.
