There are some rumors that the Royal family just can’t seem to escape, and one of those is the rumor about Prince William’s alleged affair. Though the rumors about William cheating on Kate Middleton with one of her best friends are unsubstantiated, the woman in question, Rose Hanbury, continues to make headlines years after the rumors first started in 2019. Most recently, her social media activity has garnered attention online.
Those who have been following this seemingly endless saga are convinced that they’ve found a social media profile that Rose manages, even though the account is not under her name.
Rose does have her own profile on Instagram.
If you’ve tried to find Rose on social media before, you might be aware that she does, indeed, have an account. However, if you were hoping to scope out any potential tea, you’ll have to look elsewhere because Rose has a grand total of zero posts on her personal page. According to She Knows, her handle is @rosecholmondeley but, yeah, don’t expect to find out anything about her there right now.
It’s possible that she’s been managing another account, though, which might help explain her lack of posts. Rose is married to the 7th Marquess of Cholmondeley, David Cholmondeley. Their family lives at Houghton Hall, which is also a popular tourist destination with its own Instagram account.
A recent post has people convinced that Rose is the person behind the account.
It wouldn’t be all that surprising if someone else were managing the Houghton Hall account, which is probably why people didn’t assume that Rose was the one posting to it. However, an April 4 post contained a subtle clue that suggested Rose is actually personally sharing updates there.
The post read, “Spring flowers in the bathroom I created recently using old deft tiles that were here at Houghton plus antique plates and Imari vases that I have collected over the years.” And some of the comments also seem to confirm that Rose wrote the post herself. “SO pretty Rosa. Perfection! 💙💙💙” one person wrote, addressing her by name. While that alone wouldn’t serve as confirmation, the Houghton Hall account wrote back, “thanks darling xx,” per SheKnows.
The rumors about Rose and William started after an alleged “falling out” between Kate and Rose.
If they really did have a falling out, there could, of course, be lots of different reasons for that. However, some people were quick to run with the assumption that it was due to an affair. Rose and her husband have been married since 2009 and they share three children.
The Prince William affair might seem like a fringe theory, but back in 2024, Stephen Colbert even commented on the affair rumors on his show. He described Rose as “an old friend of the royals” and mentioned how “internet sleuths” were speculating about the alleged affair. “I think we all know who the alleged other woman is, say it with me, The Marchioness of Cholmondeley,” he said at the time. “Now there have been rumors of an affair between William and [Rose] since 2019. According to tabloids, back then, when Kate supposedly confronted him about it, he ‘laughed it off, saying there was nothing to it.’ Aha, always a good response when your wife accuses you of cheating.”
