Anna Kendrick’s Story of Katy Perry Groping Her Resurfaces After Ruby Rose Allegations

It’s really quite something how when one person comes forward with an thinkable allegation of sexual assault, there usually seems to be other stories floating around about the person that people may have simply laughed off in the past. Orange Is the New Black actress Ruby Rose recently came out on Threads with allegations that pop singer Katy Perry sexually assaulted her in a nightclub nearly 20 years ago. Her allegation is deeply unsettling. With that hitting the news cycle, an old interview of Anna Kendrick on Conan has come back around, in which she shares a rather unsavory story about the “Fireworks” singer.

After Australian model-actress Ruby Rose posted a reply on Threads to an article by Complex about Katy Perry’s reaction to Justin Bieber’s Coachella concert, the world has been taking a second look at the pop singer.

Ruby claimed in the comment section on Threads that “Katy Perry [sexually] assaulted [her] at Spice Market Nightclub in Melbourne. Who gives a s— what she thinks.” In another reply, she alleged that it was nearly 20 years ago, but she finally “found [her] voice” to make it public. Even though a representative for Katy Perry denied the allegations, calling them “categorically false,” it still left a weird taste in everyone’s mouth.

So, what does Anna Kendrick have to do with all of this? Well, she had her own story to share.

Anna Kendrick shared with Conan O’Brien how she once had a ‘weird’ interaction with Katy Perry.

In an old clip from the Conan show posted to Reddit, Pitch Perfect actress Anna Kendrick shared a story with the comedian about a “weird” night she had with Katy Perry.

With a bit of a smile on her face, Anna divulged that Katy Perry “fingerbanged [her] cleavage,” in a move that she called “very mature.” Um, what?

As Conan moved his chair around trying to figure out what to say to that, he said, “Okay. She just does that?” Yeah, we were all thinking the exact same thing, Conan!

Perhaps due to the discomfort of sharing something weird like this that Anna was trying to make light of, she replied, “I was kind of asking for it. If nobody had done it, I would have been a little sad.” Anna went on to share that she had met the singer before and she felt that she’s “kind of aggressive,” but she “[liked] it.”

We imagine that it’s very hard to be on the spot on talk shows, coming up with funny anecdotes to share, but this one is just all sorts of weird!

The comment section is going off about this insanely weird interaction between the two stars.

After sharing something like that in such a public forum, there is bound to be some online chatter about it.

One Reddit commenter shared that the audience was “dead [silent]” right after Anna dropped her little story about the singer. It was probably because the idea of consent is always so important, even between friends at a party. “No one asks for their breasts being fondled unless they verbalize, ‘please touch my boobies,” a person wrote in response to their comment.

Another person in the Reddit thread pointed out how the very concept of sharing something like this as a joke is now pretty outdated. “More than anything, this feels like dated adolescent humor that we’ve since realized isn’t funny or appropriate,” they shared. We couldn’t agree more.

There was one person who jumped to Katy Perry’s defense, claiming that the pair were probably just drunk together at a party, having a laugh. “Sounds like Anna was in a party mood and Katy interpreted it correctly and they both had (probably drunken) laughs?” they wrote. If you take it to that level, aren’t you just continually making excuses for people’s bad choices?

The only good thing to come out of this is seeing that this kind of behavior is now mostly seen as wrong and inappropriate in 2026, whereas a decade or two ago, most would try to laugh it off or give it another name.
