A parent’s likely biggest wish in life is to be able to shield their child from all the potential horrors they could ever face. Although we may intercept small hurts such as scraped knees and dodge hot stovetops, we can’t do it every time. I think we all soothe ourselves by assuring ourselves that if a “big hurt” came along we’d be ready to step up to the plate. But sometimes, those life-altering and (sometimes life-ending) moments come from nowhere and there is nothing we can do to stop them. Whenever I hear about parents who were present or bystanders for those big hurt moments, I can’t help but think about the horror they must have felt, even if it ends up damaging them too.
An Arizona mom was not even afforded a moment to react when a 22-year-old street racer crashed into her car.
The street racer identified as Christian Isaiah Randall was one of two drivers who were spotted on surveillance cameras driving “well above the posted speed limit,” Law & Crime reported. Randall was reportedly speeding in a Hyundai Genesis when he struck a Toyota Camry carrying a 3-year-old girl and her nine-months-pregnant mother on April 10, 2026.
A second arrest was made April 12 of an unidentified 16-year-old driver, according to KOLD. The teen was seen in a 2014 Dodge Charge allegedly connected to the crash.
The Camry was reportedly ‘split in half,’ killing the toddler and seriously injuring the mother.
A GoFundMe account identified the victim as Anna, who was described by the fundraising organizer as a “bright, joyful, and loving little girl.”
The page also gave a status update on the mom who survived the crash but was seriously injured. “Her husband is by her side, facing every parent’s worst nightmare while trying to stay strong for his wife, their unborn but soon to be born child and Anna’s older surviving daughter,” it reads.
Just days before the crash, police warned about the dangers of street racing in the area.
According to comments on Facebook, residents have been routinely frustrated with the racing situation.
“Finally thank you I have been representing Cherry Ave,” wrote one commenter. “Neighborhood Association for over 40 years and for the last 20 we have had many racers on Tucson Blvd. and Campbell each Friday and Saturday nights for over six hours a night. Thanks for finally having time to protect us from these threats.”
“Loss of driving privileges or 10 years, if they cause injury, 20 years in prison, if they take a life, they get life. Start treating it as the crime it is, it’s the only way to stop it,” added another commenter.
KOLD noted that another fatal crash took place near the intersection just over a month ago, on March 1.
Randall, who was also injured in the accident but has since been released from the hospital and into custody, was charged with second-degree murder, two counts of endangerment, and two counts of aggravated assault, per KOLD. His 16-year-old alleged accomplice was arrested on charges of second-degree murder, endangerment, and aggravated assault.
