CleanTok Influencer Gets Dragged for Tossing Good Food in a Pantry Restock

When it comes to rampant consumerism, it pretty much goes without saying that if you have a social media account, you can easily check out a few viral restocking or spring cleaning revamp videos to see how things have gotten about hundred times worse in recent years. A popular TikToker who’s all about showcasing her vast organizational skills has recently peeved some people off. She posted a video showing a huge pantry cleaning and restock, which, for some reason involved getting rid of loads of food that looked perfectly edible!

If you’re someone who enjoys tuning into pantry restocking and cleaning routine videos on social media, this one may stop you right in your tracks.

Known as operation_niki on TikTok, who labels herself as ‘Niki’s Side of Cleantok,’ the mom and wife with over 7 million followers, recently shared a pantry cleaning video that takes you through an extensive restocking ritual of her already pristine walk-in pantry.

The video starts with Niki heading outside to her front porch to grab a large grocery delivery. She then proceeds to wheel a huge floral garbage bin into her pantry and begins to throw out what looks like a rather large amount of pantry staples and other food items.

Pasta, snacks, cookies, and more. You can see it all go in the trash without a second thought. Then comes the extensive scrubbing of every single shelf and surface, including the floor. Seriously, it looks practically sterile in there once she’s done!

This influencer seems to be all about aesthetic appeal, which some people find unsettling.

About half way through the video, you get to watch Niki begin her restocking routine. This is where she pulls out all sorts of aesthetically pleasing transparent organization bins that are labeled with little signs that read things like ‘snacks’ and ‘granola.’

The whole decanting process that you’ll often see in these types of videos, which just shows emptying a food container or bag into another container that’s often reusable, can be heavily criticized. A lot of people tend to find it a very time consuming habit. They can also actually increase the amount of household waste in the end because you just have another container or bin to dispose of.

One individual in the TikTok comments shared how she just can’t comprehend this style of organization. “I’ll never understand the advantage of putting every product in a jar instead of keeping it in its original packaging for freshness,” she wrote. A completely valid point.

Another thing that really seems to get to many of her followers is getting rid of all that good food.

A lot of Niki’s followers can’t fathom getting rid of unexpired food when so many people are struggling.

The comment section in this TikTok video may actually give you some smidgen of hope for the world, if you’ve been struggling lately. There are still some decent people out there.

A lot of the comments in this TikTok are calling this influencer out on what seems like unabashed wastefulness. “Omg. This is horrible and so tone deaf with all the hungry people who would love those snacks. Or the parents who would love to be able to give these snacks to their children. This hurt,” one person shared.

Another person in the comments kept things very simple by sharing, “This is actually so terrible to watch.” Another mindful individual with perhaps a bit more awareness about the economy and grocery prices spoke up and said, “There are alot of hungry people out there.” It’s just so true, though. There are so many people right now who can barely afford a trip to the grocery store.

Likely when she started to see some of the negative comments rolling in, Niki took to the comments to share that things aren’t always what they seem. “Everything unopened is getting donated,” she shared. We really hope that’s true!

Whether you’re into watching these kinds of videos for keep up with how people are organizing their homes, you have to admit that this kind of potential wastefulness, especially when it comes to food, is just too much to take in.
