TRIGGER WARNING: This post contains information about stillbirth and infant loss, which may be triggering to some.
When a mother loses a baby, it affects her in ways you simply cannot understand unless you’ve shared the same pain. No matter how far along she is in her pregnancy, or postpartum, knowing the baby she hoped and dreamed about will never be with her again creates tremendous grief. Texas mom Tamisha Cheyniece Drake gave birth to a baby in early April 2026. Sadly, the infant died during childbirth, leaving Drake utterly devastated. The 33-year-old woman had her baby’s remains buried at a cemetery, but evidently at some point, decided she wanted them back with her.
Cemetery employees contacted police about something strange.
According to a release shared on social media by the Angelina County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a call at the Davis Memorial Gardens in the Cedar Grove neighborhood on April 23. Employees claimed someone had dug up an infant’s grave and taken the container in which the baby’s remains were stored. After speaking with staff, deputies tracked down Drake for questioning. When they found her, she told a sad story.
Drake allegedly admitted to digging up the grave.
She reportedly told deputies that she had dug up the infant’s remains and that they could find them in the town of Lufkin.
“Deputies went to North Avenue in the city and located the container, with the body still inside, on the driveway of an unoccupied residence where Drake had told them it would be,” the release stated.
Drake’s story devastated readers.
The sheriff’s post made people very sad. In Drake’s booking photo, she looks distraught and heartbroken. People immediately felt for her.
“It’s a mama who wanted her baby, other animals hold on to their lost babies way after death (not saying it’s the most appropriate thing to do) but I do think we should give mothers some grace and let them mourn,” one person wrote. “She still could be experiencing postpartum depression/anxiety, and could even be psychosis.”
Many agreed. “This is one of those situations where she shouldn’t be charged,” someone else wrote. “If it was someone else gravely yes, but she is grieving and in her mind wanted her baby.”
Others thought Drake‘s actions were a cry for help.
Drake appeared desperate to many who pleaded with the sheriff’s department to help her. “She needs help not jail! Shes postpartum and grieving. Help her please!” a commenter pleaded.
“Yes! mental health is REAL, and postpartum mental health deserves more attention,” another person agreed.
Thankfully, the sheriff’s office claimed to be ahead of the game and said it is getting Drake the help she needs.
“We agree with you and she is receiving additional services to help her through this time. This information was only provided in response to a request from media for details about the case,” the sheriff’s office commented.
Drake faces charges of abuse of a corpse. Our hearts truly break for her. We hope the authorities keep their word and extend the grace, compassion, and support Drake needs right now. Sometimes, that’s better than the alternative.
