An Alabama family is facing an immense tragedy after two members of their family died. Sadly, Molly McKelvey took her own life a day after her boyfriend allegedly killed her 3-month-old daughter, Lotus. Details about her death by suicide are nonexistent, but I can’t imagine the grief she must have been experiencing. It had to be incredibly heavy. Her boyfriend, who was not the father of her daughter, was arrested in the baby’s murder the same day McKelvey ended her life. Although the investigation into the baby’s death is still under way, police and her autopsy revealed that she was severely abused.
These are the details that have been released.

Around 1 p.m. on April 22, 2026, Huntsville police responded to a report of a child not breathing, WAFF reported. According to police, lifesaving measures were performed, and the infant was taken to the hospital, where she was declared dead.
A preliminary investigation revealed that 34-year-old Mickele Kaipolai Ah-Nee was with the baby when she stopped breathing, police said.
The department’s Major Crimes Unit began an investigation into her death and requested an autopsy. Police said that based on autopsy evidence, the baby girl’s death was a result of foul play, according to WAFF. Dr. Tyler Berryhill, the Madison County coroner, said the cause of death was the result of complications of traumatic internal injuries.
Investigators interviewed Ah-Nee and later arrested him on a charge of homicide-murder-domestic violence.
Ah-Nee appeared in court for the first time on April 28, People reported. According to his court docket, the man was charged with murder “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to human life.”
His bail was set at $250,000, and he was in the custody of the Madison County Sheriff’s Office.
On April 23, the 28-year-old mom died by suicide.

Kristian McKelvey, Molly McKelvey’s older brother, and his fiancée, Madison, spoke with WAFF about the immense loss the family is facing.
“She was the happiest little baby I’d ever seen too you know. I won’t be able to ever see her grow old,” Kristian said of Lotus. “Molly was — she was a really awesome little sister.”
Madison added, “I mean there really are no words for having to just first finding out the baby is dead and then the mother commit suicide. She was just really full of love and full of life. When you’re around her you just feel more alive you know. To me there’s just no one like her. And Lotus just always seemed like a very happy baby.”
Lotus’ father, Joey Jones, posted about her death on Facebook.

“Forever unforgettable and forever unfixable. Daddy loves you more than ull ever get to know. Mommy loved u so much she left with you,” he wrote in his post. “Hell babygirl just tell me wen I need to be there and ill be there. Rather it be earlier than later but just know eventually ill be there with you and momma too. Im so sorry lotus Miriam mckelvey. And im sorry molly. Im never gonna be okay now.”
According to an online obituary, McKelvey also had two sons, Orion Sage and Micah Zion.
“Molly knew her boys were safe, and we understand why she chose to be with her daughter,” Molly’s stepparent Seren Moon wrote on a GoFundMe account created for pay for her and Lotus’ funeral. “We know she wouldn’t want Lotus to be alone.
“Molly touched so many lives. She had been sober for 3 years and helped so many others on their paths to sobriety,” Moon added on the page. “She loved her children and was doing everything she could to be there for them. Lotus’s life was so short and ended so tragically. Molly’s time with Lotus was very limited. The system failed them both.”
