Virginia Mom Recently Charged With Multiple Financial Crimes Allegedly Drowned 17-Month-Old Twins in Bathtub

An April 17, 2026, a call to police regarding two injured children led to a tragic discovery in Richmond, Virginia. When officers arrived, they reportedly found two 17-month-old boys unresponsive in a bathtub. Emergency crews rushed the twins to a hospital, but sadly, they did not survive. Less than a month later, police arrested their mother, 21-year-old Amaya Dixon, in connection with her sons’ deaths. Those who know the young mother wonder what happened in her home.

Police responded to the residence in the evening.

Officers with the Richmond Police Department arrived at a residence in the 1000 block of German School Road just before 9 p.m. on April 17, the Augusta Free Press reported. Once inside, they discovered the unidentified twins had apparently drowned. The first twin died at the hospital later that night, and the second died the following day. On May 7, police arrested Dixon, who faces felony child neglect and murder charges.

Dixon reportedly had a history with police.

According to WRIC, Dixon was facing multiple additional charges for unrelated crimes in Chesterfield County in December 2025. Dixon allegedly committed credit card theft, received goods and services fraudulently, committed credit card fraud of less than $1000, grand larceny, intended to sell stolen property, obtained money by false pretense, and financial exploitation. Those are serious charges but nothing in comparison to murder.

Those claiming to know Dixon could not believe the charges.

Many people shared the story on social media and evidently never expected Dixon could commit such a horrific act.

“Noooooo we worked together but u dead wrong for this Amaya imma pray for this situation bc you did talk about ya sons all the the time but I never expected to see this,” a former coworker wrote in a social media post.

Others believe Dixon experienced a mental health crisis.

“I don’t think she did it on purpose she could have postpartum depression or some medical condition,” someone else commented.

“Yes I think so to.. I know being a first time mom with one is hard…and without a village behind you it’s even harder and easier to fall into postpartum depression I hope she gets the help she needs the whole situation is so unfortunate. Feel so bad for all of them,” another person agreed.

“What the H— is wrong with people( parents) and I don’t want to hear any s—about , she was mentally ill, she EVILwhen a couple would have been BLESSED to have twin sons, it’s a good thing Orange looks good on you , I hope you wear it for a very long time, she’s a piece of s—,” another reader added.

But some people wanted to give Dixon the benefit of the doubt.

“Praying for HER you never know what ppl going through when it comes to being a mom! PPD is real and it can last up to 5 years !!! Especially when you lack support . Praying this isn’t the case,” someone wrote in the comments.

No matter how it happened, two babies lost their lives and a mother lost her children. That pain will live with her forever.
