It’s a really funny thing how you can be on top of the world one moment and then take a complete PR stumble the very next. That just seems to be the way in show business, though. The much discussed guard for the WNBA team, Indiana Fever, Caitlin Clark, is facing backlash after walking out with the often controversial country music star, Morgan Wallen, at a recent concert. Some people online are wondering what this kind of thing says about where she stands politically and even morally.
Is this all going to blow over or has Caitlin just officially given people the ick?
In a post shared on his Instagram page, Morgan Wallen shared a video captioned with only the numbers “22” on May 10 that has caught a lot of people’s attention. It was video footage from his May 9 concert in Indianapolis and he had none other than WNBA star, Caitlin Clark, walk out with him, which is a tradition he started in 2023, per Billboard.
The video shows nothing but love between the two as you can see Morgan shooting some mini hoops backstage before he meets up with the pro basketball star. The pair even give each other a hug before Morgan runs out and starts greeting concert goers.
Caitlin is seen in the footage looking happy and enthusiastic as she claps as they walk out into the stadium together. She even commented on Morgan’s posted by sharing, “We did that 🔥.” So, for all intents and purposes, she seems to be pretty proud to have been included in the country music singer’s little concert tradition.
Caitlin is facing some criticism online from fans who don’t quite understand this move.
Since Caitlin Clark has now joined a crew of people from the past who have previously walked out with Morgan Wallen, which includes Tom Brady, Peyton Manning, Mike Tyson, and Hulk Hogan — not all of these men have stellar reputations — people can’t help but wonder what this says about Caitlin as a person.
In this Reddit thread, one person was unsure how Caitlin even came to this decision. “Don’t think she realizes how embarrassing this is,” they wrote. Another person shared, “Wow. I’ve never lost interest in a public figure faster than this. What a bummer.” Another individual in the Reddit comments came with this fantastic point when they shared, “You just know this man has never watched a women’s sport a day in his life.”
It seems that some people in the comments are even connecting Caitlin’s readiness to be publicly affiliated with someone like Morgan Wallen to the WNBA investigation in 2025 that looked at alleged racist comments from a fan towards a Chicago Sky player, Angel Reese, per ESPN. These hateful comments allegedly happened after Caitlin fouled Angel in the third quarter of the teams’ season opener.
One person shared in the Reddit thread that the incident and how Caitlin never spoke out about it in support of Angel Reese didn’t sit right with them. “NGL I clocked her tea when she never addressed the racial abuse in her “rivalry” with Angel Reese … This shouldn’t be surprising,” they wrote. Another individual shared, “She’s been very quiet on the racist harassment several players spoke out about during her rookie season. Not super surprising.” Yikes.
Morgan Wallen is no stranger to controversy himself.
Dating back to 2021, Morgan Wallen was removed from more than 400 US radio station playlists after a video emerged of him using a racial slur, per the BBC. In footage that was reportedly filmed by a neighbor, the country music singer could be seen saying goodbye to some friends and then calling one of them the N-word.
Even though he issued an apology, people were instantly turned off by seeing this side to him. The singer also faced backlash when he was the musical guest on Saturday Night Live and couldn’t even bring himself to stay on stage through the closing credits with the host and the cast of the show. Not long after his show that night, he posted an Instagram story that said, “Get Me To God’s Country.”
People in this Reddit thread were majorly unimpressed by this behavior. One person shared, “Taken a private jet to gods country. You can’t make this s— up.” Another individual in the Reddit thread shared their thoughts on Morgan’s probable political affiliations. “It’s really funny how performative right wingers are. It’s so weird,” they wrote. Another person kept things super simple by stating, “Attention seeker & all around POS.”
It appears that Caitlin Clark publicly appearing alongside the controversial country singer may not have been the best move on her part.
