What to Know
One of the reasons Kelly Ripa is so entertaining to watch on TV is the way she never holds back when it comes to her reactions to things… and once again, husband Mark Consuelos is on the receiving end of those reactions. On Wednesday’s episode of Live With Kelly & Mark, Mark asked one of their viewers to “swear” on her kids while they were playing a game on the air, and Kelly could not let him know just how unacceptable that was fast enough.
The incident took place during a game of Stump Mark.
For anyone who doesn’t watch the show, Stump Mark is a popular segment during Live where a viewer calls in and gives him two statements about themselves (one which is a truth and the other is a lie), and Mark has to guess which one is true. He’s notoriously good at this game, so people get pretty excited to see if he’s finally going to lose each time. He always takes it pretty seriously.
On Wednesday’s episode, a woman named Lisa Best got to play the game. Her statements: She participated in a festival all about Dolly Parton, and that she once performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville with her seventh grade clogging team.
Mark was really struggling with which one to choose, so with his winning streak at stake, he resorted to unconventional methods to get Lisa to crack. “I’m going to do something that may ruffle some feathers, but I’m going to do it,” he said.
Then, Mark asked Lisa if she has kids, and when she said she does, he asked, “Do you swear on your kids that you participated in the Dolly Day Festival?”
Kelly wasn’t about to let this go.
Obviously, this was playing dirty, and Lisa was immediately taken aback by Mark’s question — and she wasn’t the only one!
“You are not! You are not doing it,” Kelly said to Mark. “Lisa, you do not have to answer that question.”
Lisa took Kelly up on that offer and refused to swear on her kids, prompting Kelly to call her husband a “monster,” and the audience agreed with her. “They are horrified!” she said. “People are gagged! They are shocked! They are outraged!”
And they really were. Honestly, a question like this is basically cheating at this game. It’s not fair to ask someone to swear on the lives of the most precious people to them — who’s going to risk that?!
Mark better not try to get her to swear on their children.
In the end, Mark lost, which means Lisa got to walk away with a Live mug, a Stump Mark t-shirt, and $2,000 in cash, and she didn’t even have to swear on her children in the process.
Seeing as this is how Kelly reacted to Mark trying to get somebody else to swear on their children’s lives, good luck to him if he tries to get her to swear on their three children. She’s not going to let him live this move down for a long time.
