Christie Brinkley’s Daughter Had the Perfect Response to Body-Shaming Comment About Her ‘Thick’ Legs

You’d think that, by now, people would know better than to write nasty comments about other people’s appearance on the internet, where those comments can live forever, but apparently not. This time, supermodel Christie Brinkley‘s 27-year-old daughter Sailor Brinkley Cook — who has followed in her mom’s footsteps and become a model in her own right — was on the receiving end of these comments, and she’s not letting it slide.

The rude comment was in response to Sailor’s look in a dress she recently wore.

Last week, Sailor shared a video showing off her dress options for the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit launch party as she tried to decide between a longer red gown with a mermaid style skirt or a sparkly, black minidress. In the comments, her followers weighed in on which dress they preferred, with plenty pointing out that she looked fabulous in both. In the end, though, the minidress won out.

And while Sailor was happy with her choice, one person didn’t try to hide that they thought she chose the wrong one, writing, “legs too thick for the short dress.” Was that really necessary?

Sailor had more than a few words for this commenter.

Some people might ignore a comment like that, but that day, Sailor had the time. Instead, she decided to turn it into a lesson as she shared her journey to accepting her own body.

She started off strong, opening the video by saying, “Hey there, sorry, I’m sweaty. Me and my thick thighs were just on a five-mile run,” and her speech only got better from there.

“I’ve always had very strong legs, and because of this screwed up world and all the beauty standards pushed at us from such a young age, I thought that my strong legs were something to be ashamed of,” she said, adding that there was a time she would have avoided wearing something like that black minidress for fear of what people would think about her legs.

Today, she’s proud of her body.

Now, she feels free to wear the outfits she might not have even considered years ago, because she realized that “as you get older, you don’t want to waste any more time hating your body.”

“It’s my duty now as a grown woman to be proud of my body, wear what I want to wear, show off my legs and fight back against all of that self-hating nonsense that I dealt with as a kid,” she continued, adding, “So remember guys: It’s a waste of time to hate your body, it’s disrespectful to not appreciate it and wear the f—ing shorts and the minidress.”

The body-shaming comment made on Sailor’s original post was probably just a blip in the day of the person who wrote it, but now that they’ve been called out so thoroughly, they will probably never forget it. They deserve to be a little embarrassed for being so openly unkind to a total stranger on the internet.
