What to Know
All too often, we hear stories about kids getting left alone in the car. A lot of the time, sadly, there isn’t a positive outcome to these situations. More often than not, the children are forgotten for so long, they do not survive the experience. However, every so often, there are good Samaritans that see these kids and step in to save them. These people often do so at great risk to themselves, but ultimately, it’s to make sure that the kids survive something that could kill them. One woman named Jessie recently found kids in a car, and things took a turn when their mom got hostile.
The story was told in multiple parts.

She explained that she was leaving her local Kroger grocery store with her two kids, and as she was getting them settled in her car, she noticed two kids in an SUV “jumping from one side of the car to the other.”
“Instinctively” she knew that there was no adult in the car based on what the kids were doing. So she went over to ask the kids if there was an adult with them. Of course, they said no, telling her that their mom was in the store. She noticed that there was a baby crying in the backseat.
When she asked how old they were, they told her they were five, seven, and two years old.
The mom then flagged down a couple, asking them if they’d go into the store and get security because there were kids left alone in the car. She said she didn’t want to be “that person,” and hoped store security would tell the mom she couldn’t leave her kids alone in the car. While she was with the kids, they told her their mom does this “all the time.”
The kids gave her their mom’s full name.

At this point, the kids were climbing in and out of the car, and she didn’t feel comfortable leaving them alone. While the children were talking, another woman walked by and asked what was happening.
When Jessie explained what was going on, the other woman, whose name is Nikki, said they needed to call 911. It had been at least 15 minutes since Jessie first discovered the kids.
As they waited for the police, a young girl came up to them yelling, “get away from my truck! I’m a minor, you can’t talk to me.”
Jessie and Nikki pointed out that even though she was a minor, she should have known that you can’t leave small children alone in a car in a parking lot for so long. The teen claimed that she had to use the bathroom, and the two older women explained that next time, she needed to take the kids in with her.
Things quickly descended into “chaos.”

While Jessie and Nikki were still arguing with the teen girl, the kids began running around the parking lot, she explained. Suddenly, a woman parked in a small SUV next to the one the kids were in began yelling at them, telling them to “mind their business,” and threatening to sic her dog on Nikki.
Amidst all the craziness, the mom finally appeared, and that’s when Jessie began filming. According to Jessie, the mom threatened them with the use of her gun, which was in her purse. Things turn into a full-blown argument, and the mom slapped Jessie, knocking her phone to the ground.
In addition to slapping Jessie, she allegedly hit her with her car. The woman also allegedly pushed Nikki.
After the woman sped away to the gas station, the National Guard, who were sent by police, showed up. Jessie and Nikki pointed out the woman’s SUV, giving the authorities the opportunity to catch up with her.
In a final video, Jessie explained that eventually the regular Memphis police showed up and took statements from her and Nikki. She showed them the video of the interaction, and as a result, they put out an immediate felony warrant for her arrest.
“Good job Stephanie, you left your kids alone in the car, and you do it all the time,” Jessie said. “Good job.”
