What to Know
Now that Jennifer Lopez’s twins, Max and Emme, have graduated high school, she’s giving herself a well-earned pat on the back for getting them there totally on her own as a single mom. There’s just one problem: the twins do have a very famous dad, and it seems like their mom may have been trying to throw shade at him for not being as involved in their lives as he should have been.
Jennifer reflected on her “crazy” experience with single motherhood.
While appearing on the SmartLess podcast on Monday, she told hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes all about how proud she is of Max and Emme after they were both accepted to multiple colleges and even offered scholarships.
“It’s crazy. And now I can really look at my life, appreciate it for what it is and what I’ve created for myself and be really happy,” she said. “And both my kids got into all their colleges and they both got scholarships and they’re going where they want to go.”
Then, she appeared to make a bit of a dig at her ex-husband, Marc Anthony, who she welcomed the twins with in February 2008.
She added, “I was like, ‘You did that s— all by yourself.’ That’s great. Like, ‘You had very little help,’ you know?”
Call Marc an absent dad without calling Marc an absent dad…
Marc seemed to be missing from his kids’ recent milestones.
Multiple outlets including Page Six have reported that Marc appeared to skip both of the twins’ graduation ceremonies last month, but considering recent reports that they may not have a close relationship with their dad, that may not have come as a surprise to the kids.
Along with Max and Emme, Marc is a father of five other children, along with one baby on the way, who he will share with his current wife, Nadia Ferreira, who he married in 2023. The couple already have one child together, a 3-year-old son named Marco.
J.Lo has reportedly always been the “primary parent.”

According to what a source close to the family told Us Weekly in February, since Marc has always had a “nonstop touring schedule,” Max and Emme have spent most of their time with their mom, especially as they’ve gotten older in recent years. It makes sense — what teenager wants to leave their friends and their school to hang out with their dad half the year?
“When the children were little, they definitely spent more time with [Anthony], and he would do what he could to accommodate their schedule, even sending private jets to bring them to see him,” the source said. “But that became more difficult and more infrequent.”
Ultimately, J.Lo has always been the “primary parent.”
“Marc is a very loving father, he loves all of his children,” the source added. “He provides for them financially and that is his standard of being a good father. He may not be able to give his time and physically be there, but he communicates with all of his children and tries to provide for them.”
