What to Know
Kate Middleton and Prince William are about to make a major investment in Prince George‘s education. After months of speculation about where the royal couple’s oldest son would attend school in the fall, Kensington Palace has confirmed that George is officially Eton College bound. This means he’ll be attending the same expensive boarding school his dad (and uncle Prince Harry) attended at his age — a surprising move, considering that it really seemed like Kate and Will wanted to do things differently in raising their kids.
Kensington Palace confirmed the news about George’s new school on Tuesday.
Weeks ahead of George’s 13th birthday next month, Kensington Palace announced the news about his academic future on June 16.
“Kensington Palace can confirm that Prince George will attend Eton College from this September,” said the statement from the palace.
Though there was a bit of speculation that George might go to Marlborough College, where Kate went to school, instead, he ended up following in his dad’s footsteps, becoming the second future king of England to attend Eton. Maybe this is actually a royal family tradition in the making, and George’s kids will go there, too?
It’s not going to be cheap.
Eton is a prestigious school, which means it comes with a prestigious price tag to match. According to CNN, Will and Kate will be paying £63,298.80 (or about $84,900 in US dollars) to send George each year, which would be totally out of reach for most families. You know, the ones who don’t happen to be part of the monarchy.
William isn’t the only impressive alum to graduate from the all boys school, either. Both Tom Hiddleston and Eddie Redmayne went to Eton, along with 20 former UK prime ministers. It would be a great place for George to make connections… if he actually needed them.
One thing is for sure, though: he will definitely leave Eton fully prepared for higher education (and at those prices, he should accept nothing less).
Earlier reports claimed Kate Middleton was against the idea of sending her children to boarding to school.

While nobody is surprised that George ultimately will end up at Eton College, it wasn’t always a given. Previous reports have claimed that Kate didn’t want to send her children to boarding school at all, and in March 2025, royal expert Charlotte Griffiths claimed that Kate was totally against the idea of Eton.
Even though George won’t be far in distance from his family’s home, it will still be a big change for him (and for his parents and siblings) to be living away from them for most of the year.
It’s going to be a great opportunity for him, but there’s no doubt that Charlotte and Louis are really going to miss him.
