A 3-Month-Old Found Dead as Police Say Mother’s Abduction Claim Doesn’t Add Up

A family in Ludwigsburg, Germany, called the police on June 18, 2026, with a terrifying story. A mother claimed she’d just returned to her home in Renningen from a shopping trip with her 3-month-old baby. She left the baby in his stroller and went inside the home to drop off her bags.

When she returned moments later, her baby was gone. The Ludwigsburg Police launched a full-scale search for the baby boy. On June 19, they recovered a body near a stream. More than a week later, his mother is being investigated in his death.

Police found no evidence of an abduction.

Following a June 22 autopsy, police confirmed the infant’s identity, according to German news outlet Stimme. Police did not disclose how the baby died, but noted they found no signs of a kidnapping. They suspect the 32-year-old mother left the baby’s body there herself. According to a news release, investigators are actively working to determine what happened to the baby.

“At the site where the body was found, the State Criminal Police Office has meanwhile carried out special measurements in order to create a three-dimensional model and to be able to reconstruct possible sequences of events,” police shared. “An investigative team is set up within the criminal police, in which the investigations into the death are conducted in close coordination with the public prosecutor’s office.”

It’s unclear how many people might be involved.

Shortly after the family reported the infant’s alleged abduction, his grandmother spoke to German outlet BILD. At the time, the woman claimed her daughter had multiple bags in her arms when she arrived at her home around 11 p.m. She only left the baby unattended for a moment, and he was gone. Whether the grandmother believed her daughter’s story or knew the truth is currently a mystery.

Residents fear what could be lurking in their hometown.

“I hope there’s no perpetrator running around…What that would mean…Sudden death of a child and a desperate woman… thought about how to explain in some nationalities that the woman is not to blame…Unimaginable if it was murder and that is a danger to the children in Renningen!” A concerned citizen shared on the police department’s Facebook page.

Others suspect foul play at the hands of the baby’s mother.

“Nobody steals a baby at half past 11 in Renningen and kills it. Anyone who believes something like this is stupidity, not naivety, but stupidity cannot be exaggerated. The baby was never in the shopping cart. And you still feel sorry for the mother,” another person wrote. “The baby was thrown away by her like garbage. What a critter this is. The investigation is underway against the mother. All she said was garbage.”

This person agreed and held nothing back when condemning the family or those who know them. “And how can you still defend them with your boundless stupidity,” they wrote.

The Ludwigsburg police requested help finding the person or people responsible for the infant’s death.
