Amy Duggar Reveals Which Popular Toy Was Banned by Jim Bob & Michelle To Avoid ‘Demons’

Growing up in the Duggar family definitely wasn't easy, and the more we learn about the ways that Jim Bob and Michelle restricted their children, the more upsetting the whole situation becomes. In a new TikTok video, cousin Amy Duggar revealed the toy that was banned from homes following the Institute in Basic Life Principles, or IBLP, and the absolutely wild reason why.

Amy spilled in the beans in a new video.

@amyrking They were “evil” because these dolls came with an adoption certificate and you had to write your name and say you were going to love your doll . But by signing into a written agreement to love a doll, children are apparently violating the first commandment and, consequently, would be directly disobeying God. None of us were allowed to have one. Lately, Amy's been using her TikTok platform to speak out against the IBLP, and now she's filling us in on one detail we definitely didn't expect.

Apparently, children growing up in the religion were forbidden to play with Cabbage Patch Kids dolls because they were "filled with demons and "considered very sinful."

Wait, what?

According to Amy, it all came down to the dolls' fake adoption certificate.

"They were 'evil' because these dolls came with an adoption certificate and you had to write your name and say you were going to love your doll," she explained in her caption. "But by signing into a written agreement to love a doll, children are apparently violating the first commandment and, consequently, would be directly disobeying God."

Because adopting a Cabbage Patch doll is a beloved (and harmless) childhood memory for so many kids, especially those who grew up in the '80s and '90s, this really is sad to hear.

Amy confirmed that she herself was not allowed to have one.

Even though she grew up with a far looser system of rules than her cousins did, Amy confirmed that she couldn't play with them either because her mom didn't want to rock the boat with her brother Jim Bob.

"None of us were allowed to have one. My mom didn’t want to upset her brother," she admitted.

This is just one of many similar videos that Amy has shared so far.

Sharing a video where she's using a filter that makes it look like she's sitting in a cop car, Amy wrote, "Me getting in trouble for wearing a tank top when it was 110 degrees at the 'big house.'"

In this case, "the big house" refers to Jim Bob and Michelle's home, where sleeveless tops on girls and women were strictly forbidden.

Certain members of the family seem to have come a long way since then.

Though Amy was never quite as fully entrenched in the IBLP as her cousins were, she's fully out now — and some of the Duggar sisters, such as Jill and Jinger, have certainly followed suit.

We wonder if Jinger's upcoming book will make any mention of Cabbage Patch dolls …
