‘The Bachelor’ Announces Senior Citizen Spin-Off Show: ‘A Whole New Kind of Love Story’

Fans of The Bachelor are about to have a new spin-off series to watch, and this one is likely going to feature a silver fox. ABC has announced that it's launching a new dating series, called The Golden Bachelor, which will focus on the love lives of senior citizens — and we have to admit, we're pretty excited about this.

The series will focus on a single bachelor and a collection of 'age-appropriate' women.

Variety reported on the ABC press release, which described the upcoming series as a "whole new kind of love story — one for the golden years." The new show will feature a "hopeless romantic" who is getting "a second chance at love in the search for a partner with whom to share the sunset years of life."

Awwwwww.

This is a major departure from the 'Bachelor' franchise's other shows.

Normally, Bachelor Nation contestants are young men and women who are just getting their start, mixed in with a few older guests who have gone through a heartbreak or two before turning to the reality matchmaking series to find a future husband or wife. Most of these people are in their 20s and 30s, with the rare outlier having seen their fourth decade.

The new contestants will have quite a history.

According to the press release, the ladies "arriving at the mansion have a lifetime of experience, living through love, loss, and laughter, hoping for a spark that ignites a future full of endless possibilities."

As for who will be competing for a chance at love … that remains to be seen.

This show has been a long time coming.

The idea of The Golden Bachelor had been kicked around by ABC executives for "quite some time," according to Variety, "but the series has been waiting on the back burner for years."

Of course, it won't look quite the same as the rest of the franchise. Disney exec Rob Mills said they've had to make a few tweaks to fit the older cast.

This could bring in a whole new set of viewers.

"Some of the casting interviews we got, they were so touching," the Disney head said. "It's such a different way of doing The Bachelor because these people are just at a totally different place in their lives."

We're excited to see how this all plays out on screen. Considering the writers are on strike — the Writers Guild of America's strike has entered its third week, halting projects across the entertainment industry — the timing is probably perfect for execs to try something new and different.
