Barbra Streisand, Dolly Parton & Others Pay Tribute to the Late Kris Kristofferson

Numerous musicians, actors, friends, and celebrities took to social media yesterday to pay their respects to acclaimed actor and songwriter Kris Kristofferson.

Kristofferson’s family reported that he died on Saturday at his home in Maui. He was 88. No cause of death was given.

Barbra Streisand, who starred with Kristofferson in the 1976 remake of A Star Is Born, paid tribute to him on Instagram, writing that, “The first time I saw Kris performing at the Troubadour club in L.A. I knew he was something special.”

“For my latest concert in 2019 at London’s Hyde Park, I asked Kris to join me on-stage to sing our other A Star Is Born duet, ‘Lost Inside Of You.’ He was as charming as ever, and the audience showered him with applause. It was a joy seeing him receive the recognition and love he so richly deserved.”

Many musicians wrote tributes.

“What a great loss, what a great writer, what a great actor, what a great friend,” Dolly Parton, who performed with Kristofferson on songs like “From Here to the Moon and Back,” wrote on Instagram. “I will always love you.”

Sammy Hagar posted a photo of him and Kristofferson fishing on Facebook with the caption, “heynow old friend. I hope the fishin’s good where you’re going. we’re all gonna miss you. RIP.”

Country star Reba McEntire posted a photo of her and Kristofferson together on X and wrote: “What a gentleman, kind soul, and a lover of words. I am so glad I got to meet him and be around him. One of my favorite people. Rest in peace, Kris.”

“An epic human with the biggest heart. You will be so, so missed. rest easy, my friend,” country singer LeAnn Rimes posted on X.

Other celebrities shared their memoires of Kristofferson.

“Sad to hear of Kris Kristofferson’s passing. He was an inspiration to me and I was fortunate to get to know him on the set of “Outlaw Justice” that we filmed in Spain in 1998,” Travis Tritt wrote on X. “My heartfelt condolences go out to Kris’s wife Lisa and all of his family, friends and fans.”

Melissa Etheridge shared a photo of her and Kristofferson posing for the camera on X and wrote, “Loved this man, his talent, his mind and his beautiful heart. Journey well, my friend.”

Kristofferson is known for writing such beloved songs as “Me and Bobby McGee,” “Sunday Mornin’ Comin’ Down,” and “Help Me Make It Through the Night,” as well as acting in such films as Pat Garrett and Billy the Kid, Alice Doesn’t Live Here Anymore, Heaven’s Gate, and Blade.
