Beyoncé's song "Freedom" has quickly become the anthem of Kamala Harris' presidential campaign, but she got her permission before using it. What happens when someone uses her music without permission, though? It looks like Donald Trump is going to find out. The former president used "Freedom" in a video for his campaign this week, and apparently, Beyoncé wasted no time threatening to send him a cease and desist letter.

The song was featured on a video showing Trump arriving in Michigan.
Posted by Steven Cheung, the Trump campaign's spokesperson, on X (formerly Twitter), the video shows him getting off a plane as "Freedom" plays.
The same song has been used multiple times in Kamala's campaign ads, as well as at her rallies and events.
Now, it seems Beyoncé is fighting back.
According to what a source close to Beyoncé told Rolling Stone, the Trump campaign did not ask for permission to use the song, which led to her team threatening to send him a cease and desist letter.
But even though the video has since been taken down, Cheung didn't take it down right away, despite the warning.
Beyoncé's team seems to have moved quickly.
Later the same day that Rolling Stone reported that Beyonce's camp had reached out to Trump's campaign, they moved forward with sending the cease and desist. As Billboard reported, her record label and music publisher sent the letter, and by the end of the day, the video had been deleted from Cheung's account.

Trump has a history of using music without the artist's permission.
Most recently, Trump landed himself in hot water when he played Céline Dion's song "My Heart Will Go On," which was made famous in the movie Titanic, at a campaign rally in August. The singer responded with a statement that she shared on social media.
"In no way is this use authorized, and Céline Dion does not endorse this or any similar use … And really, THAT song?" read the message.
He may also hear from Taylor Swift soon — if he hasn't already.
Earlier this week, Trump shared a post on Truth Social that included AI-generated images of Taylor and her fans as if she'd decided to endorse him. It wouldn't be surprising if Taylor decided to fight back, too — just as Beyoncé seems to be doing now.
