Bill Maher Says RFK Jr. ‘Has Got to Go’ After Watching Brutal Senate Hearing

Bill Maher has changed his mind about RFK Jr. While many were skeptical of President Donald Trump selecting RFK Jr. to be the secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services, Maher remained at least somewhat hopeful in the beginning. Previously, he suggested he was not worried about RFK Jr.’s role in the Trump administration because “the system as it is, the way we do health, is already very f—ed.”

But now, Maher believes Kennedy has “got to go.” On a recent episode of Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher suggested that he can no longer defend RFK Jr. because he’s simply “too nutty” for the job.

“I personally find this very disappointing because I am the person who was sympathetic to what [Kennedy] was trying to do,” Maher said, reflecting on how his views have changed. “I said, ‘Finally, we have a guy in there who cares about this stuff.’ But he’s also just nutty.”

Part of the problem, Maher continued, is that Kennedy “does not listen.” He said, “He’s just too nutty. He just does not listen. I mean, he just is. And nothing ever — I call it pendulumism — nothing ever stops in the middle.”

The criticism came after a Thursday, September 4 Senate hearing during which RFK Jr. defended his actions at the CDC and his stance on Covid vaccines. Addressing Kennedy’s controversial decisions, Maher said, “OK, this needed a housecleaning, the CDC. But to fire all 17 of the top people? Now you don’t have that voice in there at all. You just have your voice.”

Although he defended Kennedy in the past and said his “head [was] not exploding” over Kennedy being appointed at first, he now agrees with Kennedy’s critics. “The knives are out for Bobby Kennedy, and I gotta say, I’m with the knives,” Maher admitted.
