Britney Spears Caught Driving With No License & Now Owes the State of California Over $1K

As Britney Spears navigates life as a newly single woman after splitting from husband Sam Asghari, the singer seems to have found herself in a bit of legal trouble. According to court records obtained by Page Six, Britney was caught driving without a license and without proof of insurance when police pulled her over recently, and it sounds like she's now in some hot water with the law. But as Britney's rep puts it, the situation may not be what it seems …

Britney was pulled over on September 10.

According to documents from the California Highway Patrol, Britney was pulled over and issued two violations. One of those was for driving without having a valid license in her possession and the other for not being able to provide the officer with proof of insurance.

She has been hit with a fine for the infractions.

The total that Britney now owes as a result of those violations is $1,140, though given her estimated $60 million net worth, that's practically pocket change to her!

Her rep, however, said the situation isn't quite as serious as it may sound.

Supposedly, the ticket is no big deal.

In a statement to Page Six, Brit's lawyer, Mathew Rosengart, said, "Britney at all times had a license and insurance; this is the functional equivalent of a parking ticket."

Hopefully, after this incident — and the fine involved — Britney will make sure she has proof of both with her when she's driving.

Britney was initially pulled over for speeding.

Britney was pulled over in Ventura County after police clocked her going 61 mph in a 40 mph zone, according to what law enforcement sources told TMZ. Though she did end up with tickets for the other violations, police reportedly let her off with warning for speeding.

So far Brit hasn't mentioned her run-in with the law.

After everything she's been through over the last few years — between ending her conservatorship, her marriage, and then, her divorce — hopefully things can calm down for Britney. After all, the release of her highly anticipated memoir, The Woman in Me, is in just a couple of weeks. She's about to become a very busy lady!
