TikTok star and Cancelled podcast host Brooke Schofield has become the subject of controversy. After screenshots of her past racist tweets went public (and, consequently, ended up going viral) on August 3, Brooke is apologizing for the messages she sent between 2012 and 2015 — including her defense of George Zimmerman, who killed Black teenager Trayvon Martin in 2012. Not everyone is willing to accept her apology, though.

The tweets were shared by Pop Crave over the weekend.
In the posts on X, which was formerly Twitter, Brooke makes several comments that are giving people cause about her character, from using a gay slur on multiple occasions to joking about being "accidentally racist."
Following George Zimmerman's murder of Trayvon Martin, Brooke wrote, "Guarantee if Zimmerman shot a white guy this wouldn't even be a story. NEWS FLASH THIS WASN'T A CRIME OF RACISM IT WAS SELF DEFENSE."
Now, Brooke is apologizing for her tweets.
In the first TikTok video she shared addressing the situation, Brooke owned up to posting the tweets, confirming that they are real, and explaining that in her teenage years, her opinions were heavily influenced by her "right wing" grandfather.
"It was like my household was literally just Fox News all the time," she said. "Rush Limbaugh, like, if you guys know who that is, he played literally all day long, through the house, and that was just like the only thing ever that I had been exposed to.”
She went on to say that these tweets no longer reflect the things she believes today.
Her apology wasn't enough for many of her followers.
After the comments on her TikTok video were flooded by people who just weren't buying it, she returned with another video to try to explain herself again. Noting that the people offering her forgiveness in the comments were all white, she said, "That's how I know that I did not address this properly at all."
"I don't care if I was a teenager. I was old enough to know better," she said. "And not only did I choose to say those things, but I chose to say those things on a public platform, and I am very, very ashamed of it."

She also shared how she's planning to make up for it.
In a follow-up video, Brooke said, "I have already donated to the Trayvon Martin foundation — literally the first thing I did."
She went on to say that she's looking into other organizations and ways she can help make up for her tweets.
The response to Brooke's latest video about the situation is mixed.
While some people are still unhappy with her and claim she's only sorry because she got caught, others are now willing to give her a second chance to show how much she's grown since she originally posted those tweets.
One commenter wrote, "I am very happy that you are actively trying. This is a huge step in the right direction!"
