15 Celebrities Share Their Best Fitness & Diet Tips

Now that we've said goodbye to 2022 and rung in 2023, a lot of us are starting to work on our New Year's resolutions. And while some years we're better at sticking to them than others, it's always nice to have a fresh slate and try again. If anything involving health and wellness is on your list for 2023, you're not alone — plenty of people are setting goals for finess, weight loss, and diet changes starting in January.

And as much as we love to watch celebrity weight-loss transformations, we know our favorite stars are working with resources that most of us simply don't have access to. We're talking about personal trainers, personal chefs, and time and money that just isn't realistic for most of us — especially those of us who are raising small children!

But the benefit we get from these stars being so chatty on social media about their diet and exercise habits is the fact that we can take what they learn from these expensive services and apply it to our own lives. Here are the best diet and fitness tips that celebrities have shared. As you begin your wellness journey in 2023, some of these might come in handy.

Mindy Kaling

As someone who's lost a signficant amount of weight over the last couple of years, Mindy Kaling told People that changing her perspective on exercise was a big piece of the puzzle that she was missing.

"Surprising the body with lots of different things I think is really good, particularly for my body," she said. "I've really been mixing it up and knowing that if a workout doesn't necessarily make me soak my clothes with sweat, that it still was a good workout. It does not have to be punishing."

Adele

After famously losing 100 pounds over the course of two years, Adele told The Face that working on her core strength helped the rest of her body feel strong, too.

"Where I got my tummy strong, down at the bottom, which I never had before, my back don't play up as much," she said in the November 2021 interview. "It means I can do more, I can run around with my kid a little bit more."

Nicole 'Snooki' Polizzi

Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi has changed a lot since her days on Jersey Shore. This mom of three told People that she starts each meal with a salad, which helps ensure that she's getting in those veggies.

"Salad is always on the menu with whatever dish I am making," she said, adding that her other favorites are grilled chicken and turkey burgers.

Lea Michele

Former Glee star and Broadway actress Lea Michele said that she gravitates toward a vegan lifestyle, and makes sure she always has plenty of snacks on hand and accessible to her.

"I always keep some carrots or blueberries [with me]. I eat Macrobars, Kind bars, or even just a small bag of almonds just so that I have healthy things on hand at all times," she told Bravo in 2018.

Viola Davis

While Viola Davis was on a strict diet and exercise plan for The Woman King, she ate several small meals a day instead of three.

"I did not want them to lose too much weight, I wanted them to gain muscle," trainer Gabriela Mclain told People of training Viola and the rest of the cast for the movie. "So they were eating five meals a day, every three hours. They had to drink one gallon of water a day, and each of them had a different nutritional plan, which I designed."

Khloé Kardashian

For Khloé Kardashian, it's all about consistency — and that means not trying to eat "perfectly" 100% of the time. Instead, she just aims for the majority of the time and tries to stay realistic about what she can accomplish.

"It's probably like 70/30. I'll eat a well-balanced diet 70% of the time and have 30% that I want the pizza and the treats. When you have a kid, that stuff is so much more accessible. I think if I was too diligent, I wouldn't stick with it," she admitted to New Beauty.

Bella Hadid

Before and after working out, model Bella Hadid is sure to have a snack loaded with protein to keep her energy levels up and get the most out of her gym session.

"I count on a smoothie, a juice, or a protein drink 30 minutes before the session. After the session, I eat something full of protein like chicken and wholegrain rice. It's ideal to strengthen the muscle mass and to increase the effects of the session," she told French Vogue.

Blake Lively

Working out when you're a mom can feel impossible some days (especially while your children are small). But Blake Lively has found that using her daughters to her advantage and getting them involved in her workouts can be helpful, as she said in a video filmed for Vanity Fair.

"I would actually wake up and work out with my girls. I would sort of use them as weights. Instead of wearing a weight vest, I got to wear my children," she said.

Drew Barrymore

After realizing that she will "never be that person" who can stick to a diet and working out every single day, Drew Barrymore came to realize what is most effective for her is ditching the "all-or-nothing" approach she used to take.

"Before, it was all workout or none," she admitted to Health. "And that really didn't suit me. I had to prioritize it, but I will tell you, it is, like, third on my list. It probably should be first, but it's, like, kids and work are probably rivals."

Jennifer Aniston

People have been talking about Jennifer Aniston's potential diet and fitness secrets going all the way back to her days on Friends, but the advice she doled out to Yahoo! Food is actually pretty simple.

"Eat as [many] organic fruits and veggies as you can, keep sugar [intake] low, drink tons of water, and get good sleep," she said.

Gabrielle Union

Gabrielle Union, who frequently shares her workouts on Instagram, has said that mixing it up in the gym to keep things interesting is what helps her stay consistent.

"I like to mix it up so I don't get anxiety staring at the treadmill," she told Women's Health. "Cardio could be jumping jacks, running up my driveway, side shuffles like I used to do in basketball, an elliptical, a treadmill, or sled pushes."

Kristen Bell

Actress and mom of two Kristen Bell has found that she feels best while practicing "conscious eating," which means paying attention to how her body feels while eating without restricting her diet.

"I have to eat carbs because I have to memorize 11 pages of dialogue. And I can't do that eating spinach and chicken," she told Women's Health.

Jennifer Lopez

Considering how amazing Jennifer Lopez looks, we'd definitely trust her when it comes to advice about what to do in the gym. And according to what she wrote in her "On the J.Lo" newsletter, that means lifting weights.

"The more strength we can get in our body by lifting is really something that makes me feel strong, able, and empowered," she wrote. "That along with stretching and staying limber and mobile are the most important things."

Rebel Wilson

Rebel Wilson is among the celebrities who have lost a significant amount of weight recently (for her that means more than 80 pounds), and the way she got started is something anyone can do. On her episode of Apple's Time To Walk series, she said that walking regularly is how she kick-started her fitness journey.

Tracee Ellis Ross

Tracee Ellis Ross told People that, aside from avoiding dairy and eating "simple, whole foods," she doesn't ever want to strip the happiness out of the eating experience.

"My favorite meal of the day is an early dinner/late lunch between 4 and 6 p.m.," she said. "I love going to one of my favorite restaurants once a week to have a glass of wine and a delicious meal. I don't restrict my eating to firm meal times. I eat in the same philosophy that I live with: joyfully!"
