It's an incredibly personal decision on whether to have kids, when to have them, and how many to have. So nobody — not even celebs — owes us answers to those personal questions. But some of them have chosen to open up about their family planning, including when they've decided that their family is as large as they want it. These 15 celebrity dads decided to get vasectomies, and then they publicly talked about it.
It must be nice for regular men to know that they're not alone in their decision to get the procedure done to keep themselves from accidentally getting anyone pregnant. And some celebs also opened up about regretting their surgeries and why, so there's support in that area, too. But you don't need to be a man or a dad to read about the celebs who've undergone a vasectomy. It's all just fascinating to learn about.
Rob Delaney
Comedian and actor Rob Delaney decided to give a voice to his procedure for other men to read and relate to. After getting his vasectomy, Rob wrote an essay for The Guardian all about the experience. It was raw and real, and probably just what other men going through the procedure or thinking about it needed to read.
Antonio Cromartie
Football player Antonio Cromartie has a whopping 14 children, and he decided to get a vasectomy after kid No. 11 was born. But his clearly didn't work, as he went on to have another three kids — including one born in 2017 — after his surgery. Maybe he needs to check back in with his doctor about the procedure?
Elton John
Elton John is married to a man, so he didn't really need a vasectomy. He'd already have to go pretty out of his way to try to have a baby. But he got the procedure done anyway after previously using a surrogate to welcome his two children, sons Zachary and Elijah. "Our family is pretty complete," he said.
Mike Caussin
Mike Caussin and Jana Kramer recently split up, but prior to that, they were already talking about how they felt about having more kids. Jana regretted Mike's vasectomy, and she wanted more — but he wasn't so sure. "I don't want to raise kids until I'm 70," he said to her during a podcast. "Come on, don't you want to have fun at the end of our life, and be able to travel, and do things together? I look forward to those moments. If we keep having kids, that ain't happening, sweetie."
Now it won't be happening anyway.
Ozzy Osbourne
Speaking of regretting a vasectomy, Ozzy Osbourne did exactly that. He actually decided to have his reversed at one point to allow him the chance to be a father again. According to The Oregonian, men who have vasectomies before age 30 are 12 times more likely to later want it reversed. It's a big decision to make too young.
Dr. Phil
Another regretful celebrity vasectomy goes to Dr. Phil. He was 29 when he had the procedure done while his wife was pregnant with their first child. But he later decided to have it reversed so they could get pregnant again with their son Jordan. "He is one of the two greatest joys in our life. God, if I had missed that — how dumb. I just shudder at how stupid I was," he said.
Jay Cutler
On the reality show Very Cavallari, football star Jay Cutler revealed that he'd gotten the surgery to make sure he didn't have more kids with his then-wife Kristin Cavallari. She said on the show that it was her idea for him to get the vasectomy after the couple had their third child. Maybe he'll get it reversed now that he's single again.
Tyler Hubbard
The Florida Georgia Line musician has three kids with his wife, Hayley. His youngest was born in late 2020, and it was after his birth that Tyler Hubbard decided to get a vasectomy. "We're beyond grateful for our three babies and feel confident that we're done having children of our own," he said. "We've always felt that we would like to adopt one day, if the Lord opens that door and the timing is right, but for now our hands are full and we are so thankful."
Brandon Blackstock
Brandon Blackstock has four kids, including two with his ex-wife Kelly Clarkson, and she's the one who pushed for the vasectomy after the second baby. "I was literally pregnant with Remy, and I was like, 'You are getting fixed. This will never happen to me again,'" Kelly said. "If something happens, it's a miracle of God. I literally told my OB-GYN, 'If I get pregnant again, I will find you!'"
Slim Thug
In 2013, rapper Slim Thug got a vasectomy. He'd decided that three kids was enough for him. He joked that it would also save him from having to pay extra child support to anyone else. "#NoNewKids #NoNewBabymamas #NoMoChildSupport #NoLittleGirl just me and my 3 Boyz," he wrote on Twitter when he shared the news.
Ronan Keating
Irish singer Ronan Keating has five children, ranging in age from early 20s down to just a year. His youngest is daughter Coco Knox, who was born in 2020. After Coco arrived, his wife, Storm, pushed him into "getting the snip," as Ronan called it. Five kids is a pretty good run for a family. Not bad.
Jon Gosselin
After one set of twins and one set of sextuplets, former Jon & Kate Plus 8 star Jon Gosselin decided that eight kids was quite enough for him. He got a vasectomy to keep things from ever spiraling that out of control again, and we can't blame him! Keeping up with eight kids is no easy feat, even if he isn't the one solely raising them.
Dax Shepard
Dax Shepard and his wife, Kristen Bell, have two kids together, and that's gonna be it for them. He said he actually got the procedure done after Kristen had a pregnancy scare. "I was like, 'We're going to turn into Jon & Kate Plus 8 or something. We already have no life! This is going to be not worth living.' I freaked out. It was so bad," Dax said. So he got things taken care of.
Evan Bass
The Bachelor in Paradise star has five kids, including two with his now ex-wife Carly Waddell. After the birth of his fifth, Evan Bass was scheduled to get a vasectomy in March 2020, but the state of the world ended up shifting that timeline a bit. Over a year later, in July 2021, he posted that he was finally getting one "for real this time."
Arie Luyendyk Jr.
The latest Bachelor star to get a vasectomy is Arie Luyendyk Jr. He and his wife, Lauren, welcomed twins in 2021, and they also have a toddler daughter. And apparently three was good enough for them. Lauren had previously spoken about the chaos of raising three kids, so we kind of can't blame them for wanting to be done. "One wakes up at 10, the other at midnight, the other at 2 and by the time you know it, you've gone through the whole night and haven't slept," Lauren said.
