Actress Charlize Theron is getting real about getting older. In a new interview with Allure, she shares her honest opinions about what it has been like to age in Hollywood — a feat that isn’t easy by any stretch of the imagination. In today's world, we have incredibly high and often unrealistic beauty standards, and famous women are held to that higher standard every day, especially as they begin to get older.
Charlize has no problem sharing the hard truths about what it means to be a woman approaching the age of 50 in Hollywood … along with her reaction to people’s assumption she’s gotten a facelift.

Charlize insists that she did not go under the knife.
“My face is changing, and I love that my face is changing and aging,” she said in the interview.
She went on to add, "people think I had a facelift. They’re like, 'What did she do to her face?' I’m like, 'B—-, I’m just aging! It doesn’t mean I got bad plastic surgery. This is just what happens.'"
Charlize admitted that aging is different for everyone.

Charlize does realize that the process of aging is truly a different journey for everyone who is experiencing it, and that "women want to age in a way that feels right to them."
"I think we need to be a little bit more empathetic to how we all go through our journey. My journey of having to see my face on a billboard is quite funny now," she said.
No matter her age, her kids keep her humble.
Those billboards not only complicate her thoughts on the way she is aging, but her kids have had some hilarious reactions to seeing their mom larger than life.
"My oldest was just so embarrassed," she explained. In her latest Dior perfume ad, Charlize is topless, much to her children’s chagrin.
"She’s like, 'Oh, my God, Mom! You’re not even wearing a shirt.' I was like, 'You’re right. I didn’t even realize.' She's like, 'All my friends are gonna see this. I mean, can you just wear a shirt?'"
Her daughters are inspirational in their own way.
Charlize shared that her daughters have a completely different perspective on life than she does now that she’s getting older.
"They see somebody, they like what they’re wearing, or they think they’re pretty and they don’t really know if she’s in her 20s or she’s in her 60s. It’s so great. I love that. I wish we could just maintain that," she said.
The changes can hit hard.
Of course, as much as she wants to be open minded about getting older, the fact is, your body changes, and that is tough.
"I will never, ever do a movie again and say, 'Yeah, I’ll gain 40 pounds.' I will never do it again because you can’t take it off," she said.
"I did it at 43 for Tully, and I remember a year into trying to lose the weight, I called my doctor and I said, 'I think I’m dying because I cannot lose this weight.' And he was like, 'You’re over 40. Calm down. Your metabolism is not what it was.' Nobody wants to hear that."
