Celebrity dad Chris Hemsworth and his wife, Elsa Pataky, are coming under fire this week, thanks to the way they celebrated their twin boys' birthdays. Their twin sons turned 9 this week.

Sons Tristan and Sasha celebrated their birthday on March 18, and apparently, it included a moment where the whole family worked together to smash one of the boys' faces in their cake.

"Happy 9th birthday to my two little men! Only one way to eat cake in this house and that’s to have mum slam your head into it face first!! 'Hey mum I don’t like chocolate cake I prefer vanilla.' 'Oh really son, what about now?'" Chris wrote in his caption.

Commenters in the post were simply not impressed.

Chris' followers were not shy about sharing their thoughts in the comments, and many of them thought that this kind of prank wasn't right.

"Why people smash their kids face in the cake is above my understanding but whatever," one person wrote.

Another person commented, "It’s so violent."

Others thought it was all in good fun.

More than one of the other commenters called this a "proud dad moment" for Chris, with some people acknowledging that this was just a moment of fun.

"Great picture! Happy birthday to your kids. Many blessings for this new year of life! By the way … That is the correct and only way to eat a yummy chocolate cake," one person wrote.

Chris is known for joking around with his kids.

And in most cases we've seen before, Chris typically seems to make himself the butt of those jokes, especially when his kids prefer other Marvel heroes over Thor.

He and Elsa know their kids best — we're sure if they thought this was the kind of prank their son wouldn't find funny, they wouldn't have done it.

He doesn't seem too bothered by the controversy.

On Monday, Chris shared video footage of his vacation to Bali, so it looks like he and Elsa are having a blast … even if some people online are a bit miffed at him right now.

Here's hoping his kids had a great birthday — cake all over their faces and all.
