Chrissy Teigen Reveals Why She Doesn’t Serve Turkey on Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving less than a week away, many people are making preparations to celebrate the holiday, and that typically means purchasing a turkey — unless you’re Chrissy Teigen. In a new interview, Chrissy admitted that she doesn’t usually make a turkey on Thanksgiving, despite it being the traditional food served on the holiday. But honestly, what she makes instead does sound like it might be better …

Chrissy opened up about her Thanksgiving plans this week.

While talking to People, she admitted that she’s “not big into turkey,” so she simply doesn’t make it on Thanksgiving — and those who share her table on the holiday don’t seem to mind.

“So we tend to, like, nestle, like, three big chickens into the same roasting pan and we find that everyone enjoys it so much more than turkey. So that’s always really fun to do,” she said.

When she does make turkey, she sees it as a 'challenge.'

“I’ve deep-fried it. I’ve smoked it. I’ve done so many different ways,” she told the magazine. “I like to try a different way to love it. Fall in love with it every year. But it’s always really fun and exciting.”

Knowing how much Chrissy loves cooking, it’s not surprising she loves getting the chance to experiment.

She also prepares a "grazing table" for her guests.

Unlike some families who enjoy eating their feast around lunchtime, Chrissy prefers to serve the Thanksgiving meal at a “normal dinner time,” so she makes sure her guests don’t get too hungry.

“I also love the act of getting to fold up all the meats and, and put out these beautiful shapes and different cheeses on it and the chutneys and the honeys and everything,” she said. “The honeycomb that you put it in like [its] natural state where it just like melts onto the board. We love a really rustic beautiful cheese board.”

Sounds good!

This year, she's not sticking to anything too traditional, either.

In another interview Chrissy gave this week (this time, to Travel + Leisure), she said she’ll be sourcing some of the items on her table from unexpected places, including one very popular theme park.

“We are getting 20 smoked turkey legs from Disneyland,” she told the news outlet. “Anyone that’s had those before knows that they taste like ham, they’re crazy to me. Turkey does not get better than that. We’ll just lean up against the dumpster and pick at turkey legs when we’re at Disneyland. That’s one of my favorite moments always, so, that’s my cheat for turkey this year.”

She's also looking forward to quality family time.

“Our whole collaboration revolves around the fact that during the holidays it’s easy to get caught up, but there are so many in between moments that are really special and meaningful and beautiful, especially with a big family like mine,” she told Travel + Leisure. “We have John’s family fly in, and I googled and bought every single board game because one of our best in between moments is just a fun game night with the entire family.”

John and Chrissy’s house definitely seems like the place to be on Thanksgiving!
