Fans of Jon & Kate Plus 8 finally got an update about what's been going on between Collin Gosselin and his mother, Kate. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be an end in sight to their long-term estrangement after Collin opened up about their relationship in a new interview.

Colin opened up about the ongoing relationship troubles with his mom.
Speaking to Entertainment Tonight, Collin, then 18, explained how the relationship between him and his mother fell apart sometime before his 2016 stint at an institution for behavioral issues.
According to an interview Jon gave the Daily Mail back in 2018, Kate had her son placed in the Fairmont Behavioral Health Institute because she "couldn't deal with him."
Their issues started long before that, according to Colin.
Although that may have been the breaking point for Kate, Collin shared that he thinks things were strained between the pair for a while prior to his committal.
"Even before [being] there, I don't think we had much of a relationship, and I think that just kept tearing it even more down," he explained.
Collin blames the reality series for a lot of his family's problems.
It can't be easy raising eight children on national television the way Jon and Kate did, but those paychecks definitely couldn't have hurt because they had all those mouths to feed. But ultimately, it sounds like the success of the family's TLC series may be behind some of the bigger issues for the Gosselin gang.
"I think it tore us apart," Collin continued. "It gave us less time to actually be together as a family [and] more time to be in the public eye."
Collin has been living with his father and one of his sisters since late 2018.
Jon was able to get custody of two out of the eight children he shares with his ex-wife and the trio has been living together since Collin's release.
It seems Collin hasn't had much (if any) contact with his mother since around that time frame.
When asked if he would be open to a reconciliation, Collin confessed that he hasn't ruled it out. "It would be ideal," he shared. "It's unfortunate that we didn't have a relationship. I think every son wants to have a relationship with their mom."
These days, Collin is doing very well despite his mother's absence.
Even after everything that's happened, he doesn't seem to hold much against his mom. "I came to the conclusion that everybody has their own agenda, you know," he said. "My mom had her own agenda, and I don't know exactly what that was. But I was put in a tough spot, and my agenda was to make it out on top of that tough spot."
It sounds like he's made peace with how things are with Kate. And even though he's open to trying to repair their bond should she have any interest, he's not losing any sleep about it. "If she doesn't want to show up, she doesn't have to show up."
What a mature take on a very complex relationship.
