Pets make life so much better for us regular people, and also for the royals. There's no class divide when it comes to loving animals. The royal pets are especially adorable as they've been in the limelight for years, and we've grown extra fond of them.
Most royals' pet of choice is a dog — or multiple dogs for people like Queen Elizabeth). They're loyal, good hunting partners, and just generally cute and sweet. But there have been other royal pets throughout the ages, like bunnies, hamsters, cats, tortoises, and even swans. We've rounded up 20 of the world's royals' pets and ranked them from least to most cute. It was tough, because let's be real, all dogs are pretty adorable.
20. Princess Anne's Dog

Princess Anne is partial to bull terriers as pets, but they sometimes have aggressive tendencies if not trained properly. In 2002, one of Anne's dogs bit two children while she was walking it in the park. Hopefully, that's not the same dog that Anne let her granddaughter, Mia Tindall, take for a walk in 2018.
19. The Queen's Swans
A weird British law makes it so that the reigning monarch owns "any unmarked swans swimming in the open waters of England." That makes them technically the Queen's pets. They're definitely not the cutest animals around, but this baby swan is fairly adorable.
18. Mike & Zara Tindall's Dogs

Zara and Mike Tindall's three dogs have some creative names. Their Labs are Pepper and Storm, after characters in Iron Man and X-Men, and their boxer is named Sway, after Angelina Jolie's Gone in 60 Seconds character. The Labs are plenty cute, but the dogs' group score is brought down just a bit by Sway, who always looks grumpy.
17. The Queen's Corgis
The Queen's corgis are iconic. After falling in love with her parents' corgi, Dookie, she got her own dog, Susan, when she turned 18. She then started to breed the animals, and all of her dogs were descendants of Susan. The Queen recently ended her breeding program as she didn't want to leave any dogs behind when she died. Her pups are so cute looking but they're reportedly not friendly. Some even attacked Princess Beatrice's dog a few years ago.
16. Princess Margaret's Spaniel

Princess Margaret wasn't the fan of corgis that her sister was, and instead chose to have a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel named Rolly. The sweet dogs were long associated with royalty, having been named by King Charles II, but Margaret was reportedly the last royal to own the breed.
Today's royals seem to prefer Labradors.
15. Prince Charles' Yellow Lab

Speaking of Labs, Prince Charles had a yellow Labrador named Harvey when he was married to Princess Diana. The poor pet became a casualty of their fraying relationship, with Express reporting that Charles eventually gave the dog away to try to make things work with Diana. She reportedly thought Harvey was smelly.
14. Princess Michael of Kent's Cat

The royals love dogs — there's even been a rabbit, hamster, and tortoise as royal pets — but only Princess Michael of Kent is a cat person. Her Siamese cats often appear in her official portraits. They're handsome animals, but cats don't have quite the same charm that most dogs do.
13. The Cambridge Kids' Hamster, Marvin

The only reason that Marvin falls this low on the list is because we technically have never seen him. But judging by how most hamsters look, he's probably pretty cute. Marvin the hamster belongs to Kate Middleton's children, and he sounds adorable. Princess Charlotte is a particular fan, because of how his whiskers tickle her face.
12. The Norwegian Royal Family's Dogs

The royal family of Norway got all dressed up to take this portrait with their pups for Norway's National Day. Their dogs are labradoodles, named Milly and Muffins, and they sure seem to be enjoying their moment in the spotlight. The Norwegian royals really love their pets and often include them in family portraits.
11. Prince Harry's Pet Rabbit

Growing up, Prince Harry had an adorable long-eared bunny as a pet at his country home of Highgrove House. Harry was little at the time, so his playing with the animal was closely supervised by his parents. But even at 2 years old, he was learning to be gentle.
10. Sophie Wessex's Dog

Puppies will never not be adorable, and that includes the Countess of Wessex's little Labrador puppy seen here. In addition to having two dogs, Sophie and her husband, Prince Edward, have a tortoise — "who basically runs the house!" according to Edward. We'd love to see the reptile some day.
9. King Carl and Queen Silvia's Dog Bingo

Queen Silvia and King Carl of Sweden have a sweet yellow Lab, and Bingo is his name-o! A few years ago, the royals were taking pictures for their daughter's birthday, and Bingo totally crashed the photo session. He was the cutest scene-stealer, for sure.
8. Princess Caroline's Dog Romeo

Princess Caroline of Hanover brought her cute French bulldog, Romeo, along to a Christmas celebration in 2008. The well-trained pooch wasn't on a leash — he just walked dutifully by the princess's side. Compared to regular bulldogs, French bulldogs are quite adorable looking, which is why Romeo lands so high on this list.
7. Prince Charles' Dog Tigga
Diana must not have thought that Jack Russell terrier Tigga was smelly, because the pooch stayed part of the family for a long time while William and Harry were growing up. She even let Tigga sit on her lap for this photo shoot, and the pup is so cute that it almost pulls the focus from Diana.
6. Duchess Camilla's Dogs Beth & Bluebell
Charles has long been a fan of the terrier breed, and he owns two Jack Russell terriers with Camilla. Hers, named Beth and Bluebell, are rescue dogs that she adopted a few years ago from Battersea Dogs and Cats Home.
"The nice thing about dogs is you can sit them down, you could have a nice long conversation, you could be cross, you could be sad and they just sit looking at you wagging their tail!" Camilla recently said about why she loves her pets so much.
5. Queen Margrethe & Prince Henrik's Dog Helike

The Danish crown royals had some fun with their wiener dog Helike in this photo. Prince Henrik put his sunglasses on the pup, making it even cuter than it normally is. Henrik died in 2018, and Helike attended the services to mourn its owner. We're getting teary-eyed just thinking about that.
4. The Dutch Royal Family's Dog Skipper

The Dutch royal family is another set of dog lovers. King Willem-Alexander and Queen Maxima often let their pooches crash their family photo sessions. Their black Lab, Skipper, pictured here, is totally stealing the show with his super cute doggy smile.
3. Meghan Markle's Dogs
Meghan Markle loves her dogs so much, she brought her beagle, Guy, to her wedding reception. After stepping down from royal life, she reportedly adopted another dog — a black Lab named Oz.
2. The Cambridges' Dog Lupo
Lupo is one of the royal family's most well-known pets. There's even a children's book series about him. Lupo was a wedding present to Kate Middleton and Prince William from Kate's brother, who breeds the English cocker spaniels.
1. Princess Marie's Border Collie Grace

Princess Mary of Denmark recently got a new puppy after the death of her beloved dog, Ziggy. The new dog is named Grace, and she is also a border collie — and is a descendant of Ziggy. Grace's big eyes and fluffy body makes this pooch so cute. She just had to make the top of our list.
