Duggar Docuseries Producer Says There’s Enough Dark Secrets for an Explosive Second Season

Last week, a damaging documentary on the Duggar family was released, and the uncovered secrets were eye-opening. Even fans and critics of the reality TV family were caught by surprise at some of the revelations — but a producer of the docuseries says there's a lot that was left on the cutting room floor and there's still way more to uncover.

'Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets' was released on June 2.

While the dust is still settling on the four-part docuseries on Prime Video that exposes the family's beliefs and connection to the controversial organization the Institute in Basic Life Principles, it sounds like there's still more than enough secrets for a second explosive season.

Executive producer Blye Faust told the US Sun that she and the other producers already are in talks for a second season.

It will expose more Duggar secrets and others connected to the family.

"One thousand percent yes we are open to doing another season," Faust shared. "A few episodes, whatever it may be. There's a lot as you can see that we have not started to touch on. There's a lot of rabbit holes to still go down."

In their discussions for a potential second season, Faust said there will still be secrets about the Duggar family, but it will likely be focused on the Institute in Basic Life Principles, or IBLP, in general.

"I think probably a little bit less about the Duggars and probably more about some of these other things that we've just started to scratch the surface on," she explained via the US Sun. "We actually have a lot more that is in the can already and still on the cutting room floor."

She also hints at the potential for more to expose beyond that.

"Also, just general knowledge that we have from doing this that we'd love to unpack a little bit further, and get some other people on camera and share it with the world," Faust added. "There's a lot more than anybody could ever cover in I don't even know how many episodes."

The producers said they'd love to talk to more Duggar family members.

They're particularly interested in speaking with Jinger Duggar, who has been opening up about the challenges she faced growing up in her very religious family.

"I think we would love to speak to Jinger," Faust admitted. "She's got a lot to say, she has her own experience that is different than Jill's or any of her other siblings."

Producer Cori Shephard, who worked on the docuseries with Faust, hosted an ask-me-anything on Reddit and spilled some details about what a second season might expand on.

One of the questions Shephard received was what they would potentially cover if a second season was greenlit, and it sounds like there is so much more to get into.

"Joshua Generation. ADF. Character First. Prisons — go look up GOD PODS and ARIZONA," she wrote.

"Educational neglect and responsible homeschooling. The movement by many former Joshua Generation to pull away from Dominionism and their belief that Jesus didn't call his believers to be in that realm — but to only love their fellow humans. Oh man, so many more things!!"

Shiny Happy People: Duggar Family Secrets is streaming on Prime Video.
