What to Know
Jill Duggar has changed a lot since breaking away from her family and their cult-like religion, the Institute in Basic Life Principles (IBLP), but this kind of social media post is surprising, even for her! While her home state of Arkansas had some unseasonably warm weather over the weekend, Jill let it all hang out, and shared a photo of herself in the sun that has some of her followers convinced she was trying to post a thirst trap.
Jill showed off her legs in the new photo.
On Friday, Jill shared photos on Instagram of how she and her family were taking advantage of the warm weather they were having. In her caption, she wrote, “Sunshine, the first spring flowers, forts & fishing for minnows with friends.”
While she shared more than one picture of the fam having fun in the sun, it was the cover photo of the post that really got all the attention, with Jill’s bare legs in the foreground as she sat in a chair in her driveway, husband Derick Dillard working on his car a few feet away.
It’s easy to forget Jill was raised in a family where showing any skin above her knees would have been a big no no!
Her critics are practically scandalized.
In a post on Reddit where critics are discussing Jill’s post, plenty of people are shocked that she would post this type of photo now — even though she walked away from the IBLP years ago. While this would be a pretty mild picture for literally anyone else to post, she’s got people calling it a “thirst trap.”
“Such a scandalous photo I wonder what the other Duggars think. This photo definitely doesn’t meet the Duggars’ modesty standards,” one commenter wrote.
Another joked, “Oh lord a naked kneecap… my eyes!! You can’t open the internet anymore without see such filth!”
Jill’s views of modesty have changed a lot over the years.
If you watched 19 Kids & Counting on TLC, you already know that Jill and her sisters were forbidden from wearing anything other than long skirts and dresses while growing up, though most of them have made the choice to be a bit more free with their own wardrobes as they’ve become adults.
In a 2020 YouTube video, Jill explained her choice to wear pants and shorts to her followers. “For me growing up, I always wore a skirt or a dress or whatever, but that was something that like as we were growing as a couple and kind of like, like the Bible says ‘leave and cleave,’ and kind of reevaluating things too, it definitely was not like a reactionary thing,” she said.
Jill added, “[It] was very much something that we were just reevaluating and for me, I felt like I could be modest and wear pants.”
