Karoline Leavitt Claims Trump Understands MAHA Moms Even Though Healthy Eating Isn’t His Thing

With the Trump administration unveiling new dietary guidelines, some people have questioned whether these are really the people we should be getting health advice from. The updated nutrition guidelines were released on Wednesday, January 7, when health secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. unveiled his inverted food pyramid and urged people to “eat real food.” But not long after that, during an appearance on the Katie Miller podcast, RFK Jr. admitted that President Donald Trump does not exactly follow these health guidelines himself.

However, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt is trying to assure people that they don’t need to worry about that — because even if Trump’s eating habits are “unhinged,” he really “gets” the Make America Healthy Again Movement and the moms who believe in it.

During his recent podcast appearance, RFK Jr. said he’s surprised that Trump is still alive.

His description of Trump’s diet did not exactly scream “MAHA.” RFK Jr. said, “The interesting thing about the president is that he eats really bad food, which is McDonald’s, and, you know, candy and Diet Coke. He drinks Diet Coke at all times.” When unveiling the Trump administration’s updated dietary guidelines, RFK Jr. told people to avoid processed foods and prioritize “high-quality protein, healthy fats, fruits, vegetables and whole grains.” Trump does not appear to be following this advice.

But he understands MAHA moms anyway, according to Leavitt.

During an interview with Politico, Leavitt was questioned about how Trump’s “unhinged eating habits” don’t necessarily seem in line with “MAHA food policies and advice.” But Leavitt said that in spite of Trump’s “own personal habits,” he “fully supports” what MAHA moms believe in. Sure, he might not prioritize healthy eating, but apparently, that doesn’t mean he thinks it’s unimportant.

“He understands the movement and the power behind all of these moms who have united in pushing for a real public health change, and he fully supports it and gets it,” Leavitt claimed. “He’s also a huge believer in choice for parents in parental decision making, whether it comes to education or health.”

She then added, “He knows that parents are the best people who are best suited to make decisions for their kids, and he fully empowers that mentality.”

She also mentioned Trump’s commitment to whole milk.

Trump recently signed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids Act to allow schools to serve whole milk to kids. At the Oval Office signing event, he boasted about how he drinks milk, even though RFK Jr. said he’s always drinking Diet Coke. During her Politico interview, Leavitt used the whole milk initiative as an example of Trump’s commitment to the MAHA movement.

“This is like our third big MAHA rollout since the beginning of the new year,” she said. “So I think it shows between the childhood vaccination schedule updates, the dietary guidelines, and now the signing of the whole milk bill. There’s three huge promises the president is making and keeping, and we’re not even out of January yet.”
