Kate Gosselin Says Her Divorce Drama With Jon ‘Did Not Turn Out Well’ for Her Kids

After watching Kate Gosselin and her then-husband, Jon Gosselin, bring their sextuplets into the world on Jon & Kate Plus 8, it makes sense that reality TV fans were just as interested to follow along with what happened when the couple divorced in 2009. Their battle in court wasn’t an easy (or short) one, and now, Kate’s looking back on the ways such a public divorce process may have affected her children.

Kate wanted the divorce to be a “peaceful” one.

When Kate went live on TikTok on Wednesday night, she answered a fan question about how to get through a divorce, as People reported.

“I don’t know if you have kids or don’t have kids, but I just … I made decisions based on how I would want to be treated, honestly,” Kate said. “And I didn’t buy into all the drama and the hate, and the ugly. And I had kids involved, so I wanted it to be as peaceful for them as I possibly could.”

She admitted that it “did not turn out” like she hoped it would for her kids.

Kate hinted that the increase in drama might have been due to her ex, since “it could’ve been a lot calmer and a lot nicer if everybody was willing to play nice.”

“I did not hire an attorney that wanted to stir up trouble; I just wanted it to be peaceful, and I wanted the best for my kids,” she said. “A lot of things happened that I could not control that did not turn out well for my kids, but I did my best. We just got through it to the best of our ability.”

The Gosselins’ family relationships are still fractured years later.

Ultimately, Jon would end up with full custody of kids Collin and Hannah while the rest of the children remained with Kate. To this day, Jon is estranged from his other six kids, and Collin has said recently that the only sibling he is in contact with is Hannah.

Kate also confirmed her kids’ college educations have all been paid for.

During another TikTok live that took place on Friday, Kate shut down the rumor that she spent her children’s college funds, which came from money the family earned while filming their TLC series.

“They all have their college money, all the money that was in my control, anyway,” she said, per Fox News Digital. “And they have more than enough for college. That’s not a thing. That never happened. I’ll just leave it at that.”
