Kate Middleton is known as a royal style icon for a reason — it’s not just that she has an eye for style, but she also pays attention to the details. Everything she wears has meaning, especially when it comes to her accessories. And what better time to subtly pay tribute to the late Queen Elizabeth in her outfit than when presenting an award that has been named after her?
Kate presented a fashion award that honors the late monarch.
As People reported, while at an event that was hosted by the British Fashion Council in London, the Princess of Wales presented the Queen Elizabeth II Award for British Design to designer Patrick McDowell. The award was introduced when the Queen attended London Fashion Week for the first time — what a way to celebrate!
She borrowed Queen Elizabeth’s earrings for the occasion.
Kate’s ears were extra sparkly because she was wearing the Bahrain Pearl Drop earrings that originally belonged to Elizabeth. The Court Jeweller reported that the pearls in the earrings were a wedding gift given to Elizabeth by the Hakim of Bahrain in 1947, when she wed Prince Philip.
Shortly after the wedding, Elizabeth had the pearls used to create the drop earrings, which have baguette and round diamonds.
The earrings are a significant pair in the royal collection.

Not only did Elizabeth seem quite fond of them, wearing the earrings many times in her life, including in royal portraits, but other royal women have worn them, too — not just Kate.
Princess Diana was known to wear the Bahrain pearls, as was Sophie, Duchess of Edinburgh. As the Court Jeweller points out, over the past decade or so, Kate has been the only one to wear them.
Kate has been known to pay tribute to royal ladies through her ensembles.

Back in 2023, Kate wore the Queen Mary’s Lover’s Knot tiara — the same one that Princess Diana wore on her wedding day — to a reception at Buckingham Palace. The tiara was once a favorite of the mother-in-law Kate never got to meet, and now, it seems to be one of Kate’s favorites, too.
What will she wear next?
