Kelly Clarkson Explains How She’s ‘Dropped Weight’ After Moving to New York City

More than a year after Kelly Clarkson finalized her divorce from Brandon Blackstock, the former couple is still duking it out in court. Amid their legal battle, more details about what was going wrong behind the scenes as their marriage was unraveling are still coming out. Thanks to court documents recently obtained by the New York Post, we know that Kelly says Brandon told her she wasn't "sexy" enough to coach on The Voice — an update that's coming just as Kelly is opening up about her recent weight loss.

Kelly has made a major transformation lately.

Fans have been taking notice of Kelly's new slimmed-down look, and now, in a new interview with People, she's talking about how it happened. Not only did she say that walking in NYC has helped, but she's been also making healthy changes here and there with the help of her doctor.

"I eat a healthy mix," Kelly said. "I dropped weight because I’ve been listening to my doctor — a couple years I didn’t. And 90% of the time I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat — sorry, vegetarians in the world!

"But I still splurge," she added. "The other night I had a frozen yogurt with my daughter, and it was magical."

Kelly's weight loss comes after her ex-husband put her down for the way she looked.

According to what Kelly said in the court documents, Brandon knew that she'd been wanting to be on The Voice for a long time, but he insisted that the producers were "looking for a more sex symbol type" and that she was "too similar" to coach Blake Shelton to be considered.

He also said that NBC "had to have someone that was black … They had to have a diverse thing."

Brandon's words stuck with her.

When Kelly's lawyer, Ed McPherson, asked her how she remembered that conversation that took place so many years ago, her answer was simple.

"Well, a wife doesn’t forget a time she gets told she’s not a sex symbol, so that stays," she said.

Ouch.

When Brandon did finally negotiate her position on 'The Voice,' Kelly said he was 'proud.'

But even though he was willing to brag about the deal, Kelly said Brandon stayed quiet about allegedly paying her agents at Creative Artists Agency less than the 10% commission they were owed.

"In fairness to Mr. Blackstock, I stayed out of the money part," Kelly said, per the Post. "I never was a part of the business conversations. I was always a part of creative. But no, that’s the first time I heard about any of that."

According to McPherson, Brandon's story keeps changing throughout the legal battle.

"Mr. Blackstock’s story, particularly with respect to The Voice, changed several times during the week of the hearing, sometimes because concrete proof of contrary facts were shown, and other times for no apparent reason," he said. "If there is one theme throughout this case, it is that Brandon Blackstock is not a credible witness, on almost every issue."

Brandon was recently ordered to pay Kelly $2.6 million.

In November, a California labor commissioner ordered Brandon to pay Kelly $2,641,374 in commissions that he shouldn't have made as Kelly's manager, which included $1.98 million from The Voice deal alone.

It sounds like this legal battle is far from over. This probably isn't the last we'll hear of what was going on behind closed doors at the end of Kelly and Brandon's marriage.
