King Charles Reportedly Tried To Block Meghan & Harry From Getting Their Kids UK Passports

Somehow, even more details about what’s really been going on behind the scenes in the royal feud just keep coming out. This time, insiders are sharing more insight into why Meghan Markle and Prince Harry would have wanted to change Archie and Lili’s last names. They may have believed that King Charles was intentionally blocking them from getting the kids UK passports.

Their passports were reportedly taking an especially long time to process.

Earlier this week, The Guardian reported that this particular chapter of royal drama began when Harry and Meghan were applying for UK passports for their kids and were becoming “exasperated” by how long they were waiting to get them.

The wait time for passports was three weeks, but when three months had passed, they applied again, this time applying for 24-hour expedited passports, only for a supposed “systems failure” to cause their meeting to be canceled.

In the end, it took a full six months for the passports to finally be processed. “There was clear reluctance to issue passports for the kids,” a source said.

King Charles may not want Archie and Lili to have royal titles.

According to what the source told The Guardian, King Charles may have been behind the hold up.

“The king hadn’t wanted Archie and Lili to carry the titles, most of all the HRH, and the British passports, once created, would be the first and perhaps the only legal proof of their names,” the source said. “Harry was at a point where British passports for his children with their updated Sussex surnames (since the death of Queen Elizabeth II) were being blocked with a string of excuses over the course of five months.”

That’s when Harry and Meghan considered changing their last names to Spencer.

This pushed Harry to speak with his uncle, Earl Spencer, to explore what it might look like if they all became Spencers like his late mother, Princess Diana.

They ultimately decided not to go that route. Harry wanted Archie and Lili to have that HRH title. That way, when they’re adults, they can decide on their own if they’d rather become working royals or avoid that life completely.

Eventually, the situation resolved and the dust settled.

We may never find out which parts of this story – if any – are true, though.

In a statement issued to multiple news outlets including People andThe Guardian, a representative for Harry said, “We do not comment on private issues pertaining to the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s children.”
