The Kardashian family is used to receiving criticism, which it pretty much gets with anything they share online. The super-influential family is very polarizing — you either love the clan or don’t — but neither side seems to shy away from sharing opinions that weren’t asked for.
The fam's social media shares get millions of views and thousands of comments.
For Kourtney Kardashian, she’s used to it, especially when it comes to her looks and body, her co-parenting relationship with Scott Disick (they share three kids), or her relationship with Travis Barker.
But she’s also on the receiving end of finger wags about her parenting of 11-year-old son Mason, 9-year-old daughter Penelope, or Reign, her 6-year-old son.
Most recently, Kourtney’s parenting decisions regarding something she lets Penelope do are being taken to task.
Kourtney and Penelope share a verified TikTok account, @pandkourt. On their account, there’s been a range of videos and appearance from other members of the family. There have been dance videos with cousin North West, she's participated in viral sound trends with Kourtney and Scott, and her younger siblings have been featured.
Because she’s a part of a famous family and everyone featured is too, the videos on her TIkTok account receive millions of views and thousands of comments.
A video posted a couple of days ago is getting a lot of attention.
Kourtney and Penelope posted a video clip December 1 of Penelope pouring a can of soda into a glass of ice. The song “Yellow” from Coldplay plays as the 9-year-old takes care to pour the drink and take a sip. Kourtney pops into the 11-second clip right at the end and takes a sip of the soda from the can.
The video was a pretty standard one for the two to post — an everyday glimpse into their lives.
The comment section, however, proves that this family can and will get criticized for anything.
The small clip has been played more than 2.4 million times with nearly 5,000 comments, and people are going off over Kourtney allowing Penelope to wear artificial nails. The nails are pretty subtle, a neutral brown color, but they’re longer and shaped as fake nails.
“Dang at her age I got stickers not nails,” one person shared.
“I mean how she handle those nails in her playtime,” another person commented.
There were several other comments such as “She’s too young for nails like that … she’s a kid,” "OMG she’s only 9 what the heck are these nails,” and “Why don’t you get her braces instead of nails?”
Not everyone was quick to judge, though.
Although there were several comments criticizing Kourtney allowing her daughter to wear her nails long – acrylic or press-on aside, there also were lots of people who pointed out that it’s not a big deal.
“Can't understand why people are mad abt press on nails,” one person wrote. “They look cute man.”
“Why is everyone acting like we weren't painting our nails at like 4 years,” another comment read.
Several more shared that they didn’t understand what the big deal was. “Y'all mad but at her age I was buying press on nails,” and “Why are people bothered by her nails?”
The nails are harmless, and Penelope is loved and happy. Shaming isn’t cool – even when it’s a celebrity.
